Dallas Police Sergeant Charged With Stealing Department-Issued Firearms and Pawning Them In Oklahoma

A former Dallas police sergeant has been indicted on federal gun charges for allegedly selling stolen department-issued firearms, USA Today. Thomas Michael Fry, 52, was officially charged last Wednesday with three counts of possession and sale of a stolen firearm.

“Police officers have a sacred duty to uphold the rule of law. Instead, this sergeant betrayed his department – and his community – by allegedly pawning stolen firearms,”

said Chad Meacham, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas.

“The U.S. Attorney’s Office will not hesitate to pursue charges against law enforcement officers who fail to live up to their oaths.”

The Dallas Police Department began investigating Fry in October 2022. Investigators discovered that the sergeant had stolen at least three 9mm Sig Sauer pistols from a substation between August 2021 and July 2022 while assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division. He then pawned the stolen firearms at a pawnshop in Oklahoma, according to federal authorities.

Fry was first arrested in April 2024 after he turned himself into the Mesquite Police Department on three counts of firearm theft, a state jail felony. In July 2024, he was arrested again by the Royse City Police Department on a separate felony theft charge. During the internal affairs investigation, he was placed on administrative leave.

While under investigation, Fry resigned in August, as confirmed by a police spokesperson to FOX 4. If found guilty, Fry could face up to 30 years in federal prison.

  • Public Defender Charged After Having Relations With Inmate and Former Client, Reports Say She Gave Him Confidential Information About His Brother’s Case

Public Defender Charged After Having Relations With Inmate and Former Client, Reports Say She Gave Him Confidential Information About His Brother’s Case

A public defender in Dallas is facing charges for allegedly having a romantic relationship with one of her former clients and giving him confidential information about his brother’s case, reports the New York Post. The public defender, 28-year-old Ragan Sierra Moreno, is accused of providing sensitive case information to the inmate, Todd Whitfield, who then used it to threaten one of his brother’s alleged victims.

Moreno was arrested but has since been released on bond. It is unclear if she has hired another lawyer or if she is still working for the county. However, as of now, she is still allowed to practice law in Texas. Moreno had been working for the Dallas County Public Defender’s Office for about eight months and was assigned to represent Whitfield in a misdemeanor vehicle burglary case. The relationship between Moreno and Whitfield began despite him going to jail for probation violations.

The charges against Whitfield were eventually dropped, and Moreno was no longer his lawyer when she allegedly shared the documents with him. Detectives became aware of the relationship when they received a tip about Moreno spending a lot of time visiting Whitfield in jail. They discovered that the two had communicated multiple times, and Whitfield had used other inmates’ accounts to contact Moreno.

The messages they exchanged were personal, indicating a romantic relationship. During a call, Whitfield instructed Moreno to look for him in jail by waving a towel in front of his cell window. Moreno admitted that she had wanted to expose herself to him but couldn’t because of law enforcement presence.

On September 12, Whitfield asked Moreno to look up his brother’s criminal proceedings and prior case information. Moreno used her work laptop to access restricted search engines and shared confidential details with Whitfield about the victims involved in his brother’s cases. Whitfield later sent threatening messages to one of the victims.

If convicted, Moreno’s punishment may include losing her law license in Texas.

Texas Mother Fatally Shoots Daughter’s Abusive Boyfriend After He Allegedly Dared Her, Saying, ‘Just Go Ahead and Shoot Me!’

A mother from Texas has been taken into custody after allegedly shooting her daughter’s abusive boyfriend during a heated altercation in which he reportedly shouted,

    “Just shoot me,”

    reports the NY Post

Patricia Conlon, aged 49, visited the Dallas home of Joshua Troutte on Sunday after her daughter revealed that she was ending their nearly two-year-long abusive relationship due to his continued violent behavior.

According to law enforcement documents cited by Fox 4, Troutte’s roommate told police that he witnessed Conlon entering the residence armed and initiating an argument, during which Troutte yelled the aforementioned phrase. The roommate further stated that he heard multiple gunshots, eventually finding Troutte deceased in the bathroom.

When questioned by the police, Conlon claimed that her original intention was to hold Troutte at gunpoint until the authorities arrived to apprehend him for hitting her daughter above the eye with a phone. However, she admitted to the fatal shooting, insisting that she acted in self-defense after Troutte physically restrained her by grabbing her arm and pulling her hair, she told police.

The police, however, disputed Conlon’s claim of self-defense. They pointed out that she had tried to hold Troutte at gunpoint and regarded her use of deadly force as

    “unreasonable,”

according to the affidavit. Conlon was immediately arrested and charged with murder.

According to local reports, Troutte had an extensive criminal background, including a prior guilty plea for assault and family violence in 2018.

Texas Man Arrested For Stealing Monkeys From Dallas Zoo Told Police He’d Do It Again

On January 29th, two monkeys named Bella and Finn, kept at the Dallas Zoo, were stolen from their enclosure, ABC News reported. Before the animals were taken, a man had been questioning zookeepers how they cared for them, and what their routines were. They were unaware that it was in preparation for his plot to steal them.

Police later released camera footage of the suspect to the public, and two women came forward, saying that they had seen the man from the photos leaving a vacant house near the church they attended. Inside the empty home, the missing mammals were found, along with multiple cats, pigeons, and feeder fish that he had taken from the zoo earlier that month.

On Thursday, Davion Irvin was arrested for the animal theft. The 24-year-old then told police that on the night of the monkeys’ disappearance, he waited until dark, jumped a fence to enter the zoo, cut the metal mesh of the enclosure, and left with the two animals. He also confessed to attempting to steal Nova, a clouded leopard that had escaped January 13th, after he was able to break into her enclosure.

Despite facing charges of animal cruelty and burglary, Irvin told investigators that if he were released, he’d continue to attempt to steal animals. According to police, his love for animals surpasses his love of freedom. Irvin currently remains jailed on a $25,000 bond.
