Homeless Man Shocked to Learn He Won $1M on Scratch-Off Ticket

A “loyal customer” of a downtown San Luis Obispo liquor store recently won a $1 million prize from a California Lottery scratcher, as reported by The Independent

    Life Changing News

According to another local establishment, the winner was homeless and had been living on the streets. On Friday, Sandy’s Deli-Liquor shared on Instagram that they sold a Triple Red 777 scratcher that won the $1 million prize. The business also posted a photo of the winning ticket along with a sign that reads, “millionaire made here.”

A representative from the California Lottery stated that they can not “confirm or acknowledge any big wins like this until the person who won comes forward and their claim is thoroughly vetted by our security and law enforcement division.”

They indicated that this process typically takes about six to eight weeks. However, it may take longer if any unusual circumstances arise.

On Monday, Sandy’s manager Wilson Samaan shared with The Tribune that he was present when the man who purchased the winning ticket. Samaan stated that the man bought two 777 scratchers along with some smaller ones on the evening of April 6 for a total of $25. He checked one of the 777 tickets right away and won $200, which the cashier cashed out for him.

He didn’t check the other ticket until he returned first thing the next morning while Samaan was on duty. Initially, Samaan said the man thought he had won $100,000—still a significant amount—but then Samaan pointed out that there was an additional zero, bringing the total to an incredible $1 million prize.

Since then, Samaan has been assisting the man with the verification process for the win through the California Lottery, providing photo and video evidence of the purchase. He even offered to drive the man, who doesn’t have a car, to the nearest office in Fresno to redeem the scratcher, rather than risking it getting lost in the mail.
