  • Two Suspects Charged In Murder-For-Hire Plot Against Philadelphia Teacher Rachel King, Prosecutors Say

Two Suspects Charged In Murder-For-Hire Plot Against Philadelphia Teacher Rachel King, Prosecutors Say

Two people have been charged in the murder of a Philadelphia teacher who was gunned down at a Dunkin Donuts drive-thru in front of her son, in what prosecutors called a hit planned by a scorned woman, the NY Post reported.

Prosecutors announced on Wednesday that Julie Jean, 34, was charged with

“first- and third-degree murder and conspiracy,”

in connection with the April 11th shooting that killed Philadelphia mother Rachel King, 35. According to the prosecutors, evidence has revealed that Jean paid a hitman to kill King. King was reportedly gunned down in front of her 11-year-old son at a Dunkin Donuts drive-thru in Cheltenham, Pennsylvania.

The alleged gunman, Zakkee Steven Alhakim, 33, is charged with

“first-degree murder, conspiracy, and related crimes,”

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said.

According to the Inquirer, Jean allegedly was having an affair with King’s long-time boyfriend, William Hayes. When King learned of her partner’s infidelity, lines of communication ended between Hayes and Jean. An arrest affidavit obtained by the outlet details how Jean grew obsessive after the break-up and began

    “stalking and harassing”

    Hayes,

“frequently turning up at his apartment unannounced.”

Hayes took out a protection-from-abuse order against Jean in December, Steele confirmed per the NY Post.

Jean allegedly contacted Alhakim, the father of her children, to murder King in exchange for a Mercury Sable, that she bought him. Jean showed Alhakim a Google Maps screenshot of King’s apartment as well as pictures of King during an in-person meeting, the Inquirer reported. A warrant for Jean’s cellphone also revealed that she deleted 787 text messages moments before her interview with police, including all of her messages with Alhakim.

Prosecutors linked the Mercury Sable and the .9 mm handgun that killed King to another homicide, that occurred on April 7th. Alhakim was charged in connection to that as well and remains in custody.

Pennsylvania Man Arrested After Drugging His Mother With Fentanyl Before Killing Her

A Pennsylvania man is now in police custody after drugging his 72-year-old mother with fentanyl and then fatally shooting her, The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office reports.

Sunday afternoon, police in Falls Township were notified about a domestic dispute between 28-year-old Sean Rivera and his brother. Rivera reportedly told Adam Clark-Valle that their mother, Carol J. Clark, became sick, was taken to the hospital, and then had died of a heart attack. When Clark-Valle checked the area’s hospitals to look for her, and couldn’t locate her, he reported his mother as missing.

After obtaining a search warrant for Clark’s home and vehicle, investigators discovered two guns, bolt cutters, a padlock, an empty padlock package, and a receipt from Home Depot. Prosecutors say that Rivera drugged his mother’s iced tea with fentanyl Saturday night, drove her to a shed in Philadelphia early Sunday morning, shot her multiple times, and locked her inside with one of the newly purchased padlocks.

Man Pleaded Guilty After Confessing To Drunkenly Stealing Thumb Off Ancient $4.5 Million Chinese Statue, Thumb Was Worth About $5K

A man from Delaware, Michael Rohana, pleaded guilty to embezzling a thumb off of a $4.5 million Chinese ancient warrior statue as he drunkenly partied at a museum in Philadelphia, reports the New York Post

Rohana stole the thumb from the 2,000-year-old ancient statue after sneaking into an exhibit that was closed off while he attended a party at the Franklin Institute back in Dec 2017. Prosecutors managed to drop one of the major charges against him, theft and concealment of an object of cultural heritage from a museum, which could’ve landed him in prison for up the 30 years. This charge was dropped as a part of his plea bargain. Yet, he pleaded guilty to charges of interstate trafficking, which is a maximum of a two-year sentence and a $20,000 fine.

The man was merely 24 years old when he snuck into the closed-off exhibit at the museum’s after-hours holiday festivity. He later admitted to committing the crime and taking a selfie with the statue, says charging documents. In 2018, Chinese officials were angry over the act and demanded that the United States punish the Rohana.

According to reports, the statue was worth $4.5 million while the thumb was worth about $5,000. Back in 2019, Rohana confessed to stealing the thumb, yet, a mistrial took place

    “after the jury deadlocked,”

    reports the Philly Voice.

  • Philadelphia Officials Raising Money To Fund Program That Would Pay Pregnant Women $1K Per Month, Reports Say

Philadelphia Officials Raising Money To Fund Program That Would Pay Pregnant Women $1K Per Month, Reports Say

It looks like expecting mothers in Philadelphia may have a chance of being compensated on a monthly basis. According to the New York Post, officials in Philadelphia are raising money to jumpstart a trial program that’ll give monthly payments of $1,000 to pregnant women who reside in specific areas of the city.

The Philadelphia Department of Public Health is looking to launch The Philly Joy Bank pilot at the beginning of 2024 in an effort to

“help ease racial disparities in infant mortality rates,”

    reports The Post.

Reports say out of the top ten populated cities, Philadelphia has the most infant mortality rate during a child’s first year of living. Dr. Cheryl Bettigole, a health commissioner said,

“Infant mortality in Philadelphia is a solvable crisis.”

“We know that being able to better support pregnant people and new parents helps keep babies alive. As the poorest big city in the country, this is not always easy, especially in areas of the city that are being crushed by generational poverty and systemic racism.”

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the trial would allow new mothers to obtain payments for 18 months, which includes a year postpartum. In order for women to qualify, they must have an annual income of $100,000 or below.

The targeted neighborhoods include Cobbs Creek, Strawberry Mansion, and Nicetown-Tioga. Officials say the low birth rates in those areas are the highest in the city. Reports added that there aren’t any rules as to how the money can be utilized.

On top of receiving cash value, expecting mothers will also be promised

    “voluntary support,”

such as financial counseling, home visits, doulas, and location support.

The city’s goal is to raise $6 million for the trial as they have already secured $3 million thus far from the William Penn Foundation and Spring Point Partners.

An elementary school janitor was arrested for allegedly acting as a

    “secret admirer”

to an 11-year-old student and saving dozens of photos of child pornography on his cellphone, NY Post reported.

  • Detective Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Homicide Victim’s Mother, Lawsuit Says

Detective Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Homicide Victim’s Mother, Lawsuit Says

A woman has taken on a federal lawsuit against a Philadelphia homicide detective who allegedly sexually assaulted and harassed her while investigating her son’s murder, Fox News reported.

The mother, who tragically lost her son to gun violence on Nov. 2, 2020, is now pursuing a lawsuit against the detective in charge of the case. According to a court filing obtained by Fox News, the woman who is referred to as Jane Doe is suing detective Donald Suchinsky,

    “a seasoned investigator,”

for sexual assault and harassment after he allegedly made several unwanted advances on her.

Suchinsky reportedly called the victim from an office phone

“and told her there were ‘things’ he wanted to do to her, but he could not say what they were,”

the lawsuit claims. The lawsuit also accuses Suchinsky of asking the woman for images. Other officers were allegedly aware of Suchinsky inappropriate behavior but did not intervene.

The lawsuit went on to say that Suchinsky went as far as to invite the woman to police headquarters and then sexually assaulted her in her car. After the alleged assault the woman asked if a different detective could be assigned to her case but no efforts were taken, according to the civil complaint. Suchinsky continued to spend months harassing the grieving mother, sending distasteful emails and phone calls, reports note.

According to court records, it appears that Suchinsky has been listed in at least three prior federal lawsuits against the city. However, the cases filed in 2019, 2010, and 1999 were all dismissed. Fox News reached out to the Philadelphia Police Department for answers to which they responded,

“The PPD cannot comment on the specifics of these allegations due to an active Internal Affairs investigation, as well as pending litigation.”
