A woman from Florida was arrested for child neglect after she overdosed in a house where two children were present. The woman, Kandes Alderman, was found unconscious in her bedroom by deputies. A 7-year-old child called 911 to report the situation. It is not clear whether the children were Alderman’s own, but she was responsible for them. Fox 35 reports that the woman was the children’s guardian.

When the deputies arrived at the house, Alderman was unresponsive and appeared to be in bad shape. It took several attempts to wake her up, and she solely became responsive after an official used sternum rubs and helped her out of bed. Once she regained consciousness, she was taken outside for medical treatment.

During their investigation, deputies discovered a used syringe in plain sight on the woman’s nightstand. A field test confirmed that it contained heroin. The syringe was easily accessible to the children, as Alderman had left them unsupervised without any other adults around to care for them.

After being taken to the hospital, Alderman fled. However, she later contacted the authorities and was apprehended.
