According to authorities and reports, a tragic high-speed crash occurred in Michigan, where a 19-year-old named Ella Vece was driving at an excessive speed and her best friend Nevaeh Downs, 18, cautioned her to slow down. The vehicle swerved off the road and hit a tree, resulting in serious injuries for Vece and sadly, the death of Downs, per the New York Post

Christopher R. Becker, a Kent County Prosecutor, informed The Post,

“It’s kids doing stupid things… And it ended in a tragedy.”

According to the prosecutor, a video from the scene caught Nevaeh Downs cautioning Ella Vece about an oncoming car.

Nevaeh Downs, described as a thoughtful and caring individual, was a recent high school graduate. A scholarship fund in her name has been set up at Grand Rapids Community College. Ella Vece, charged with reckless driving causing death, pleaded to a lesser offense. Vece faces a possible prison sentence of up to one year if convicted.

Although Downs’ family saw Vece as a relative, the prosecutor believed it was necessary to hold her responsible in some manner. As part of her plea agreement, Vece had her license suspended for a year.
