Kendrick Lamar isn’t the only one Drake is fighting; the Canadian rapper is now a loggerhead with UMG. However, in this chaos, media critic Flakko says that the music giant can have him replaced.
Drake Versus UMG
Following his feud with fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar, Drake is now pointing to UMG. The rapper slammed a lawsuit against the group on January 15 in a New York Court. Per Billboard, he accused his longtime recording company of siding with Lamar. The rapper insists that the music label prioritized “corporate greed” by allowing Lamar to release his diss track, which cited defamatory remarks.
Concerning Lamar’s slanders, Drake accused UMG of tagging along —helping the artist promote his songs despite their knowledge of the false claims. Thus, this action, according to Drake, made him a victim of violent attacks.
UMG Versus Drake
The music production company released a response on January 15, just hours after the “God’s Plan” crooner sued them. In their response, they revealed that the rapper was illogical with his claims. They refused to have their image dented, adding that their duty is never to tarnish the reputation of another artist.
Per their statement, UMG spotlighted their working relationship with the artist, which has gone on for years. Throughout this time, UMG claimed that they prioritized Drake’s musical success. Without mincing words, the music giant referenced Drake’s diss tracks, which also held false claims. In their opinion, the rapper had dished out such remarks in the past and couldn’t stand the taste of his own medicine. Their statement read:
“Throughout his career, Drake has intentionally and successfully used UMG to distribute his music and poetry to engage in conventionally outrageous back-and-forth ‘rap battles’ to express his feelings about other artists.”
Consequently, UMG disagreed with the accusations of weaponizing Lamar against Drake. Instead, they claim to be assisting an artist who expressed himself artistically. They have vowed to defend their name while protecting their “people and reputation.”
Drake Lost The Rap Battle With Kendrick Lamar
As for Drake’s reputation, fans would agree that the rapper is quite famous for diss tracks between other rappers. Most recently, the Canadian native has clawed at Lamar, with both rappers giving their replies in diss tracks. But it all came to a halt after Lamar released his “Not Like Us” track. This piece of music spotlighted Drake as a pedophile. Soon, Lamar’s music topped the charts while Drake was left to live with the criticisms.
In November 2024, the rapper mentioned that the music label would pay for Lamar’s actions. While his rival isn’t particularly on the hot seat, Drake has refused to get out of UMG’s hair.
Flakko On Drake’s Lawsuit
Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable” song might have just inspired Flakko. While reacting to Drake’s lawsuit, the “No Jumper” host claimed UMG could have another Drake in a minute! He established that UMG made Drake a celebrity, and they could do that with any other artist if they pleased. While the fact that UMG raised the rapper to be what he is, through the years, Drake has proven to have a peculiar sound and has racked up loyal listeners.
