A Maryland man has been arrested after he allegedly stole a forklift and used it to run over an elderly woman, killing her, in the parking lot of Home Depot, Fox News reported.

Bryce Caleb Timothy Brown, 20, of Waldorf, was arrested Sunday for the death of 73-year-old Gloristine Pinkney. According to detectives with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, they responded to a call of a burglary and theft in progress at a Lowe’s Home Improvement store at around 12:40 a.m., Sunday.

When officers arrived Brown had already made off with a stolen forklift from Lowes, crashing it through the rear gates to escape. He drove to a nearby Home Depot where police said he slammed into a car in the parking lot

“for unknown reasons.”

The victim, who was asleep inside the car at the time, was startled by the accident and managed to exit the vehicle. However, when she tried to escape, Brown followed her, ran her over with the forklift, and then stole her car and fled the scene, according to detectives. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers who were investigating the initial burglary at Lowe’s canvassed the area and observed the forklift in the Home Depot parking lot. They subsequently discovered the victim underneath of the forklift,”

CCSO wrote in a statement.

“After pursuing leads, detectives were able to positively identify Brown as the suspect. He was arrested during the evening hours of July 2. The victim’s vehicle was recovered near the suspect’s house,”

the statement continued.

He faces charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, assault, and

“other related charges,”

according to the sheriff’s office.
