Chris Brown appeared in court today, June 20, as part of his trial proceedings for an assault charge. The musician has been charged with attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm on music producer Abraham Diaw. Chris Brown entered a not-guilty plea when asked to respond to the charges against him. Brown has tours scheduled for this month and will continue through later in the year. The judge ruled that he could continue with his tour.
Chris Brown Pleads Not Guilty

Chris Brown is making a not-guilty plea to the charge of attacking producer Abe Diaw with a tequila bottle. The Grammy Award winner was at London’s Southwark Crown Court on Friday. Several of his supporters were there to support him during his hearing. After taking the dock, the Under the Influence singer confirmed his name and date of birth, May 5, 1989. The judge then asked for his response to the charge of attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm. “Not guilty, ma’am,” Chris Brown replied for his plea.
Judge Baumgartner also took the plea of the Loyal singer’s associate, Omololu Akinlolu. The latter, a 39-year-old U.S. national who performs under the pseudonym “HoodyBaby,” also entered a not-guilty plea. Meanwhile, Chris Brown has also been charged with possessing an offensive weapon, a bottle, with which he hit Diaw. He didn’t enter a plea for this.
The judge granted Brown and Akinlolu bail until their next hearing, scheduled for July 11. They may be asked to plead to the charge of assault causing actual bodily harm at their next court appearance. The main trial is scheduled to begin on October 26, 2026, and is expected to last for five to seven days. Chris Brown left the court after entering his not-guilty plea and was seen waving to people in the public gallery. Supporters also told him, “We love you, Chris,” as he left the dock.
Chris Brown’s Arrest and Bail Conditions
Police arrested the Kiss, Kiss singer at a five-star hotel in Manchester in the early hours of May 13. He had just flown into the UK on a private jet. He was also returning to the country for the first time since the alleged assault incident. Brown is accused of launching an “unprovoked attack” on a producer, Abraham “Abe” Diaw, at Soho’s Tape nightclub in London. He allegedly hit Diaw with a tequila bottle multiple times before he and another person punched and kicked him repeatedly.
The incident is reported to have occurred on February 19, 2023, while Brown was touring in the UK. A judge granted the Run It singer bail in May. He was in custody until he promised to pay a £ 5 million ($6.7 million) security fee. He must also surrender his passport whenever he is not traveling and not visit the scene of the alleged incident. Additionally, he must live at a specific address known to the court and must not contact the alleged victim, Diaw.
Chris Brown can continue with his tour in the meantime. The songwriter flew to the UK in May in preparation for his “Breezy Bowl XX” tour. The tour began on June 8 in Amsterdam. The next date will be held at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday. Brown is also scheduled to perform in France, Portugal, and the U.S., wrapping up in Memphis in mid-October.
Chris Brown’s fans are thankful that his tour can continue as scheduled. In the meantime, they are hoping he beats the assault allegation leveled against him. The public is also interested in his case and is watching closely for the trial’s outcome.
