Stylist Who Braided Gervonta Davis’ Hair Responds After He Blamed Grease For Slip

Gervonta Davis’s hairstylist has denied claims that the boxer had a slip during his last fight because of hair grease. After a draw that saw Davis keep his lightweight title and unbeaten record, he explained why he took a knee. Gervonta Davis almost lost the match between him and Lamont Roach when he strangely took the knee. He told fans after the game that the grease in his hair affected his vision, which slowed his reaction.

Gervonta Davis Says Hair Grease Causes Slip

Gervonta Davis’s controversial draw against Lamont Roach got many talking after the former kept his unbeaten record despite his slip-up. He had an unexplained delayed reaction after Roach jabbed him in the ninth round. After the fight at the Barclays Center, the crowd booed Davis, who tried to explain why he almost lost. He said, per The Sun:

“I just got my hair done two days ago and she put grease in my s***.”So the s*** was like sweating and things like that and the grease coming in my face.”

    He added:

“It burned my eyes type s***, yeah. Damn, why y’all booing like I’m saying bulls***? Like, this is real facts. Come on, man. Look at my hair, I just got my s*** done.”

    Davis also added online:

“They took the fight from me and made it a draw becuz I did that bulls*** knee…but I landed the most punches in the fight. [Roach] didn’t even hit me w a punch when I took the knee. I get it though, I shouldn’t have done that but that hair grease was burning my eyes.”

Gervonta Davis Hairstylist Hits Back At His Claim

However, Gervonta Davis’s hairstylist, Lee The Brand, did not accept responsibility for the boxer’s slip, which caused him to touch down. In a now-deleted post, the hairstylist disputed Davis’ claims on Instagram.

“I did his hair WEDNESDAY, It’s SATURDAY! He did press, gym and weigh in,” she wrote. “That’s no excuse, how much grease did I use damn.”

She also shared the image of a Conditioning Shine product, which reads “no grease” on the label. She captioned it, “The grease in question.” The Bronx-based hairstylist also posted another image of the boxer sitting in the chair with equipment on another side. She wrote:

“The grease in the room with us?” and added a laughter emoji.

Meanwhile, another Instagram user, @happypunch, reposted a screenshot of a post blaming Lee The Brand for Gervonta Davis’ slip. Users in the comment section responded, accusing the hairstylist.

“It’s your fault. Please no more grease…actually stay far away from him,” someone wrote.

Roach Reacts To Davis’s Slip Excuse

Gervonta Davis’ opponent, Lamont Roach, has responded to his rival’s claim that excessive hair grease caused his slip-up. He said:

“If you voluntarily take a knee and the ref start counting, it should be a knockdown. If that’s a knockdown, I win the fight. So, I mean, it is what it is. I’m not banking on that knockdown to win. I just thought I pulled it out.”

Roach added that he wanted a rematch. The referee, Steve Willis, did not enforce a mandatory countdown on Gervonta Davis after his slip. According to boxing rules, an official must administer a count if a boxer’s glove or knee touches the mat. A judge scored the Gervonta Davis-Lamont Roach match 115-113 in favor of Davis. The other two declared it a draw with a 114-114 score. Meanwhile, Gervonta Davis has declared his readiness to face off against Roach after his slip-up in their last match.

Fans keep debating Gervonta Davis’ claim that excessive hair grease caused his eyes to burn, leading to his slip. Meanwhile, some opine that his stylist’s response may cause her to lose celebrity clients. At present, there are no known merits or demerits to her actions.

Hill eased into the conversation when he told his guest:

“One thing I thought about when preparing for this interview is the idea of idols becoming rivals.”

He stated that he has also experienced being tossed aside once their former benefactors no longer find them useful. A curious Hill asked Gervonta Davis what he meant, and he told the influencer that Floyd Mayweather Jr. had once placed him in a difficult position. Davis revealed he was just 21 when asked to face José Pedraza. The 2017 fight would be his first world title, and he had been out of the ring for seven to eight months. Davis revealed that Mayweather insisted that he fight Pedraza or he would not get another opportunity. Meanwhile, Davis only earned $10k a fight, so he struggled financially. He had also been evicted from his house and had to sell his jewelry to survive. When asked if Mayweather did it intentionally, Davis said yes.

When Hill asked him for more details, he said he didn’t want to “go too deep into it,” but he fell out with his former mentor because of his daughter.

“They were saying I was messing with his daughter after the fact that she kept Snapchatting me,” he told his host. “She kept hitting me on the Snapchat so they sent it to Floyd and Floyd bugged out.”

Davis noted that the incident didn’t end his career but destroyed his relationship with Mayweather because the latter tried to bring about his downfall.
