An Indiana man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing two fans of the New York Knicks at a local brewery, as reported by PEOPLE.
Jarrett Funke, 24, is accused of stabbing two men who were
“talking trash”
during the Knicks’ NBA Playoff game against the Indiana Pacers on Friday night. The incident reportedly occurred just before 11 p.m. on May 23 at a brewery in Carmel, Indiana, according to police. The Carmel Police Department stated in a Facebook post that officers discovered two individuals suffering from stab wounds upon their arrival.
“One male sustained a stab wound to the back and was transported to a local hospital,”
the Carmel Police Department said.
“A second male suffered a stab wound to the lower leg and later sought medical attention on his own.”
Funke was apprehended at the scene, according to a spokesperson for the Carmel Police Department.
The two victims of the stabbing told police that Funke approached them at the bar and reportedly
“smacked”
a Knicks hat off one of their heads, as reported by Fox 59, which cited a police report. Funke was subsequently removed from the bar while shouting at the victims,
“f— you, you still have a f—— problem. Take this outside,”
according to the outlet.
Funke reportedly told police that the Knicks fans were
“talking sh—”
to him and supposedly instigated the fight by pushing him and
“starting to punch him in the face.”
Funke then stated to the police that he retrieved his pocket knife and swung it at one of the Knicks fans during the confrontation, according to Fox 59.
Hamilton County court records obtained by PEOPLE indicate that Funke appeared in court on Tuesday and has been charged with three felonies: battery with a deadly weapon, battery causing serious bodily injury, and criminal recklessness involving a deadly weapon. Additionally, court documents reveal that he is facing a misdemeanor battery charge.
