Plane Passenger Pleads Guilty After Trying To Open Emergency Exit and Stabbing Flight Attendant

A man from Massachusetts has confessed to a frightening “midair attack” where he attempted to open an airplane’s emergency exit and threatened to kill everyone on board. 34-year-old Francisco Severo Torres was restrained by passengers during a United Airlines flight in March 2023 after he attacked a flight attendant with a spoon, according to the New York Post

Torres pleaded guilty to interfering with flight crew members using a dangerous weapon, according to Massachusetts US Attorney Leah Foley’s office. His sentencing is scheduled for July 17, where he could face life behind bars. About 45 minutes into the flight, an alarm sounded after a flight attendant saw someone messing with the emergency door.

Torres was questioned about tampering with the door handle. The crew saw him as a threat and asked the captain to land quickly. Soon after, he stood up, claimed he would “take over this plane,” and attacked a flight attendant with a broken spoon, stabbing her three times “around her neck.”

Passengers tackled Torres, and the flight crew helped restrain him until the plane landed at Logan Airport. He later informed officials that he wanted to open the door to jump out, aware many would die. A judge found him mentally unfit for trial back in July 2023.

“She was the brightness and the light on a dark day for a lot of people.”

Man Allegedly Killed His 80-Year-Old ‘Sneezing’ Roommate For Getting Too Close To The Thanksgiving Spread, Police Say

A Massachusetts man is accused of killing his elderly roommate on Thanksgiving because he felt he was standing

    “too close”

    to the food when he

    “often sneezes,”

as reported by the NY Post.

Frank Griswold, 80, went into the kitchen to wash dishes when his roommate, Richard Lombardi, 65, pushed him to the ground, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and court documents shared by WCVB.

Earlier that day, Lombardi and Griswold had a disagreement about the older man being near the food while it was being prepared. In a police interview, Lombardi explained that he was concerned Griswold’s sneezing might

    “contaminate the food.”

Lombardi told police he found Griswold in the kitchen,

    “too close”

to the food and shoved him away. Lombardi claims

“that Frank Griswold’s feet got tangled up, and he fell and hit his head on the floor,”

    WCVB reported.

When Griswold didn’t get up, Lombardi contacted 911. First responders found Griswold unconscious,

“laying face-up on the floor in the kitchen in a pool of blood,”

according to the prosecutors. The two roommates had been friends for 30 years and had lived together for over 20 years.

Lombardi has been charged with assault and battery against a person over 60, causing serious injury, and involuntary manslaughter. He pleaded not guilty and will return to court on December 4.

Massachusetts Police Recruit Dies After Being Knocked Out During Training Exercise

A Massachusetts family is calling for a thorough investigation after a state police recruit died following an injury during a training session at the Massachusetts State Police Academy, per USA Today

Enrique Delgado-Garcia, 25, from Worcester, was hurt and lost consciousness during a defensive tactics training exercise on Thursday. He passed away the next day.

The training included boxing, as reported by WBZ-CBS News Boston.

After helping the recruit, the academy’s medical team determined he needed immediate care, so they took him to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, according to state police Gazette.

“Despite the heroic efforts of medical professionals to deliver lifesaving care, Trainee Delgado-Garcia died at the hospital,”

state police said in a statement

In his last hours, state police held a bilingual ceremony for Delgado-Garcia, for his oath of office where he received his trooper badge in front of family, friends, and classmates.

On Saturday, his body was moved from the hospital to the Chief Medical Examiner’s office in Westfield, with state police cars following the transport.

Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. confirmed that Delgado-Garcia had previously worked in his office and stated that another agency would investigate his death due to a possible conflict of interest.

“This investigation must be conducted without conflicts of interest and in full transparency,”

“It is the least we owe to Enrique, his family, and our community in the pursuit of justice and accountability.”

  • 62-Year-Old Recipient Of Genetically Modified Pig Kidney Dies Weeks After Groundbreaking Transplant

62-Year-Old Recipient Of Genetically Modified Pig Kidney Dies Weeks After Groundbreaking Transplant

Richard ‘Rick’ Slayman, aged 62, who made medical history as the first person to receive a kidney from a genetically modified pig, has sadly passed away, as reported by the NY Post. The groundbreaking transplant took place two months ago at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Following the procedure, Rick was discharged and sent home in March, just two weeks after the transplant. His family and doctors announced this unfortunate news on Saturday.

“Their enormous efforts leading the xenotransplant gave our family seven more weeks with Rick, and our memories made during that time will remain in our minds and hearts,”

his family said in a statement.

Slayman underwent a groundbreaking medical procedure to treat his ongoing dialysis complications. Instead of traditional methods, Rick chose to use animal cells, tissues, or organs. This decision was made to reduce his hospitalizations, which occurred every two weeks.

“I saw it not only as a way to help me, but a way to provide hope for the thousands of people who need a transplant to survive,”

he said in a statement at the time.

“Rick accomplished that goal, and his hope and optimism will endure forever,”

his family said Saturday. The transplant team at Mass General said it had

“no indication that it was the result of his recent transplant.”

Previously, pig kidneys were only tested on brain-dead donors, and two men who received pig hearts both died within months. The main reason for failure is the human immune system rejecting the foreign animal tissue. However, recent procedures like Slayman’s involve using pig organs that have been genetically modified to be more human-like, increasing the chances of success.

  • Instagram Influencer Receives 5-Year Prison Sentence For Lavish Lifestyle and Travel Funded By Fraudulent COVID-19 Relief Loans

Instagram Influencer Receives 5-Year Prison Sentence For Lavish Lifestyle and Travel Funded By Fraudulent COVID-19 Relief Loans

According to the US Attorney’s Office for Massachusetts, Instagram influencer Danielle Miller, 32, has been sentenced to a five-year prison term for committing fraud, per Insider

Miller was found guilty of unlawfully acquiring

    “pandemic-related loans”

and using the funds to support her lavish lifestyle. She reportedly utilized the personal information of more than 10 individuals, generating over $1 million in COVID loans from July 2020 to May 2021. To carry out her scheme, Miller employed forged driver’s licenses, featuring her own picture but bearing the names of her victims.

“Ms. Miller isn’t an influencer, she is a convicted felon,”

Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy said in the statement.

“In a quest for fleeting social media stardom, Ms. Miller relied on fraud to fund a lavish lifestyle of private jets, luxury apartments, and other accouterments of wealth.”

Levy emphasized that the sentencing must serve as a clear message that building an elite social media persona at the expense of

    “hardworking taxpayers”

    is a

“path to prison, not fleeting fame.”

Miller’s Instagram following includes Anna Sorokin, a convicted fraudster who posed as a wealthy heiress to gain entry into elite New York social circles. In a previous interview, Miller admitted to being a “con artist” with a charm that allows her to manipulate people.

She was arrested in May 2021 and later pleaded guilty to charges of identity theft and wire fraud. District Court Chief Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV recently sentenced Miller to five years in prison, and three years of supervised release, and ordered her to pay restitution. Additionally, she was forced to surrender several luxury items she fraudulently obtained, and over $600,000 from her residence and bank accounts was seized by the US government.

  • Jewish Teacher Resigned After Receiving Antisemitic Harassment From 12-Year-Old Student

Jewish Teacher Resigned After Receiving Antisemitic Harassment From 12-Year-Old Student

A Jewish middle school teacher in Massachusetts decided to resign from his position after encountering antisemitic harassment from his 12-year-old student, NY Post reported.

Morrison Robblee, 25, was a sixth-grade social studies teacher at the Nessacus Regional Middle School in Dalton until his resignation. According to Robblee, the harassment began in April after he showed up to school in a yarmulke, a skull cap worn by Orthodox Jewish men. The student began making hateful comments towards Robblee and was sent to detention. However, that did not stop the child from returning with a

“sketch of Hitler standing over a dead person labeled ‘Jew,’ surrounded by swastikas and canisters labeled ‘gas,’”

    Robblee told Insider.

Robblee believes the student’s rage towards him is stemming from a prior incident that occurred at the beginning of the year where the child allegedly made homophobic comments and was removed from the class. Robblee claims to have dealt with weeks of harassment from the student. He told Insider that the harassment even spilled over into the hallways and that the boy continued to make jokes about the Holocaust, including gas chambers. He also revealed that the student also emailed him insults about his teaching.

The student now faces a misdemeanor charge of criminal harassment.

Robblee says he doesn’t feel like he was receiving the same support from school administrators, however. Robblee was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into him making a face at the child in the hallway. Robblee admitted to Insider that he stuck his tongue out at the boy in a second of frustration after the child cursed at him.

“I am not bothered by the ignorant comments of a child,”

Robblee reportedly wrote in a statement to the Central Berkshire Regional School District to be read at a meeting to end the boy’s suspension.

“I am bothered that, without proper intervention, this hate will continue to fester.”

  • Two Children Suffered Burn Injuries After Acid Was Poured Onto 3 Slides At A Massachusetts Playground

Two Children Suffered Burn Injuries After Acid Was Poured Onto 3 Slides At A Massachusetts Playground

Two children endured burn injuries at a Massachusetts playground after a hazardous chemical was poured down three slides, per Insider

Emergency dispatchers were called to two residential addresses on reports of two children suffering from burns. According to one of the mothers,

“There was a ‘sizeable puddle’ at the bottom of the slide,”

she wrote in a public Facebook group. Initially, she believed it was just rainwater but after her toddler came down the slide,

“she started crying and saying, ‘Mommy, it hurts, it hurts,’”

    she told WBZ News.

Officials identified the substance on the playground as muriatic acid, also called hydrochloric acid,

“a colorless, corrosive, nonflammable gas that fumes in the air”

    and can cause

“severe chemical burn, blindness, and respiratory irritation,”

the CDC reports. Longmeadow firefighters and police were notified about a

    “suspicious substance”

on the playground on Sunday morning. They have since removed and sterilized the playground of any chemical elements, but have kept the park closed as of Monday, according to a press release.

Investigators revealed that someone had broken into the pump room in the basement of a pool building, which is where the acid had come from. Investigators also discovered an open ventilation shaft. They said the suspect had to climb over two fences before entering the ventilation shaft.

“A great deal of effort was employed to enter this space,”

the fire department said. A suspect has not been detained as of yet. Police urge anyone with information to contact the detective bureau.
