Nigerians Stranded In UK, After Emptying Their Savings To Pay Agents

According To Vanguard, Many Nigerians are reportedly battling with joblessness and destitution in the United Kingdom after emptying their savings to pay agents who promised them employment with skilled worker visas. The victims who spoke to Sky News said they left Nigeria in search of greener pastures with the assurance of getting jobs in the UK as promised by their agents, but the story turned out to be ugly on their arrival.

A victim who spoke to Sky News on the condition of anonymity on the narrow corridor of a food bank, said she is currently destitute in the UK despite being promised a job in Britain. In the same vein, another lady said she arrived in the UK three months ago, after paying an

    “agent”

In Nigeria £10,000 to arrange a job as a carer in the UK. In contrast, only to find out that the job does not exist. According to them, they travelled on the skilled worker visa organized by the travel agents or middlemen, and the report revealed that many of these Nigerians are struggling to survive, turning to food banks and even sleeping on the streets.

Narrating their ordeal, the victim said,

“I’ve always provided for myself. I’m a very hard-working, diligent person. So for me to be here depending on people to eat coming to the food bank to get food isn’t ok with me. “I don’t feel happy about it. It makes me feel I’m less of a person. I should be in a position of helping not receiving aid because this is not who I was back in my country. It makes me feel as though I’m a fool,”

She said. The victim also said she was advised not to contact the British company that sponsored her for fear of repercussions – but showed us her passport and other documents supporting her account of what happened.

31,000 Children Malnourished And Left Unattended To In Sudan

According To Africa News, Many of the children who fled the ongoing fight in Sudan are now suffering from malnutrition. About 500 children have died from hunger in Sudan — including two dozen babies in a government-run orphanage in the capital of Khartoum — since fighting erupted.

Aid workers at the camp complained about the lack of medications and called for urgent medical assistance.

“Any malnutrition patient who comes to us should receive proper medications, and we don’t have any medications here,”

    Said volunteer doctor, Hashem Moussa.

Sudan was plunged into chaos in April when simmering tensions between the military, led by Abdel Fattah Burhan, and the RSF, commanded by Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, exploded into open fighting in the capital, Khartoum, and elsewhere. More than 3.4 million people were forced to flee their homes to safer areas inside Sudan, according to the United Nations’ migration agency. Over a million crossed into neighboring countries, including Egypt, Chad, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Central African Republic, according to the United Nations’ migration agency.

The renowned chef made this declaration while appearing as a guest on The Big Friday Show hosted by BBNaija star Symply Tacha. She noted that she decided to audition for the popular reality show while still planning her record-breaking attempt. Hilda also added that she planned to hold her cook-a -thon after coming out of the Big Brother house, but she was never selected. She said,

“I tried to get on Big Brother Naija for a while. I think I auditioned about four or five times. The plan for the cook-a-thon was still in the pipeline, so my goal was to go to Big Brother and then come out and do the cook-a-thon.”

Going on, Hilda acknowledged the idea that her plans fell through because God had better plans for her. She took the rejection as a sign to focus on what she does best, cooking.

    In her words,

“But I guess God just knew, he was like you know what, this is fine just focus on this, this is going to take a lot more from you”

Baci is known for breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual by cooking for a total of 93 hours and 11 minutes in May 2023. Her four-day cooking marathon was held in Lekki, Lagos State, during which she received tremendous support from Nigerians both at home and abroad.

After weeks of waiting, it was finally announced that she followed their guidelines and set a new world record. However, due to a timing error in her breaks, she broke the record by 93 hours 11 minutes instead of the 100 hours 40 minutes she had calculated. Regardless, she officially received her certificate from the Guinness World Book of Records in June 2023 and has climbed higher up the success ladder since then.

    ‘I Told Them’

Burna Boy described Nigerian mainstream music generally called Afrobeat as a music that lacks substance. In a conversation with Apple Music Zane Lowe. Burna Boy said that Afrobeat offers no substance and it’s simply about giving a good time and that’s not all that music should be about.

“Afrobeats as you people call it is mostly about nothing. There’s no substance to it and nobody is talking about anything. It’s just about having a great time”,

    Burna Boy says.

According to the Grammy winner, music should not only be about a good time because life is not always a good time.

  • Fraudster Posing As Bank Official Scams Woman Of N2.8M

Fraudster Posing As Bank Official Scams Woman Of N2.8M

According To Punch, An Abuja-based businesswoman, Mrs Juliet Okpako, is currently devastated after losing N2.8m to a fraudster who posed as a bank official. The distraught woman said trouble started when a lady contacted her on the telephone and claimed to be calling from her bank. She said the caller, who identified herself as Ms. Joy, told her she called to warn her not to disclose her account details to anyone under any disguise. According to her, she did not suspect the caller because she kept warning her that if anybody asked for her Bank Verification Number or any of her bank details, she should not make the information available to the person.

    Okpako said,

“Somebody called me and she said she was calling from my bank. She said some people had been scamming some of their customers. She said they were trying to rectify something. She asked whether I had received any messages. I told him no. She said I should check my phone and send back the message they sent me to her“.

I sent the number to her and I received another one. She said I was going to receive another message from the bank. And when I saw the message, it was from my bank. I did not suspect anything, as she kept on telling me that if anybody asked for my BVN and all that, I should not send it.

Immediately after I sent that number, I started receiving debit alerts. That was how I knew I had been scammed. I rushed to my bank, but before I got there, all the N2.8m in my bank had been withdrawn. They transferred N200,000 multiple times to other accounts.

“They also used N100,000 to recharge some telephone numbers. I opened the account just to save the money to start a new business.”

She lamented that after all her efforts to block the account failed, the last money in her account was debited when she was asked to get a form before the account could be blocked.

    She added,

They first directed me to go to court, and from there we went to the Police ‘A’ Division in Suleja to make a report. I gave up after going to court. The police and then the bank said they could not trace the numbers that all the money and airtime were sent. It was when I was trying to get a form that the last money was debited. Contacted, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, was not available for comment as of the time this report was filed.
