Peter Stinson, a former U.S. Coast Guard officer, has been arrested in Virginia for allegedly issuing repeated threats against President Donald Trump over four years. This was revealed by court records cited by CBS News and NBC Washington.
Stinson, who reportedly once trained emergency personnel for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), is accused of posting violent rhetoric aimed at Trump X and Bluesky between 2020 and 2024. In several instances, authorities say he made references to using firearms and even hinted at financially supporting or participating in violent acts.
One social media post from April 2020 allegedly read: “Somebody ought to do more than sue him,” followed by a disturbing comment about a rifle and scope. In another, Stinson reportedly offered $100 “for a contract,” which prosecutors interpreted as suggesting a murder-for-hire plot.
Court filings indicate that Stinson aligned himself with the Antifa movement and frequently engaged with posts critical of Trump. Following the recent attempt on Trump’s life in Pennsylvania, he allegedly posted further veiled references to the incident.
Peter Stinson has not entered a plea. He remains in custody and will appear before a magistrate judge for a detention hearing on Wednesday.
