New York Judge Steps Down After Claiming He Believes All Defendants Are Guilty

A judge from upstate New York has resigned after attempting to avoid jury duty by declaring that he couldn’t remain impartial, as he believed that anyone appearing in court was guilty.

Richard T Snyder, who had served as a justice in the Petersburgh Town Court for roughly ten years, resigned following allegations of misconduct from a state judicial commission, as reported by officials on Tuesday, per Huff Post. Court transcripts reveal that Snyder tried to escape jury duty in 2023 by initially introducing himself as a judge and then stating,

“I know everybody come in front of me. I know they are guilty. They would not be in front of me.”

Snyder was dismissed from jury duty. He reportedly insisted that he could not remain unbiased. Snyder said,

“No. It would not be fair,”

Court records from a special grand jury in Rensselaer County show. The judge managing the jury selection informed state officials about Snyder’s comments. He later acknowledged the principle that defendants are deemed innocent until proven guilty during a judicial commission hearing the next year. However, he maintained his belief that individuals wouldn’t be in court if they hadn’t committed any crimes.

“I meant, that they were guilty because they did something wrong. But they’re not guilty ’til they come to court. They’re innocent ’til proven guilty,”

    he told the commission.

“They did something wrong. That’s why they got a ticket. But they’re not guilty,”

    he added.

Robert H. Tembeckjian, who oversees the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct, addressed the comment made by the former judge stating that,

“there is no place on the bench for someone who so deeply misunderstands the role of a judge and the administration of justice.”

Courts in New York do not offer automatic jury duty exemptions to anyone, including judges.

Two Female Teachers In Wisconsin Resign For Allegedly Sexting Student and Attempting To Arrange Foursome

Two high school business teachers in Wisconsin were forced to resign after it was discovered that they had been engaging in inappropriate behavior with a student, per the NY Post

The teachers, Alexsia Saldaris and Jennifer Larson were caught exchanging explicit messages and photos with the student through Snapchat. They even went as far as suggesting a foursome and sending risqué pictures. The scandal came to light after a school trip that took place from April 7-9th.

Larson confessed to sending inappropriate messages about

“cuddling, flirting, and the implication of alcohol.”

The teachers reportedly told the boy they wanted to

    “have fun”

with him and asked if another student could join them. Additionally, Saldaris allowed the student to drive a district van and shared a half-kiss with him, reports note. On a separate occasion, Saldaris sent the student photos of herself in her underwear and lingerie.

Larson eventually reported Saldaris to the administration for letting the student drive the van which ended their relationship. The scandal was further exposed when students were seen laughing at explicit pictures of Saldaris on a phone. Both teachers were placed on administrative leave and later resigned.

The Janesville Police Department is conducting an investigation to determine if any criminal charges should be filed against the teachers.

  • Illinois Parole Board Members Step Down Following Release Of Man Who Fatally Stabbed 11-Year-Old Boy Less Than 24 Hours Later

Illinois Parole Board Members Step Down Following Release Of Man Who Fatally Stabbed 11-Year-Old Boy Less Than 24 Hours Later

The chair of the Illinois Prisoner Review Board and a board member have resigned following public backlash over the release of a man who went on to fatally stab his ex-girlfriend’s young son, reports the NY Post

Donald Shelter, the board chair, and LeAnn Miller, a board member, stepped down on Monday after 11-year-old Jayden Perkins was murdered on March 13. The incident occurred less than 24 hours after the man was granted parole. Crosetti Brand, 37, allegedly attacked Jayden and his mother, Laterria Smith, at their home in Edgewater.

Smith survived the attack but suffered a stab wound to her neck. Miller had reportedly approved Brand’s parole the day before the incident, which has caused widespread outrage because Smith had previously sought an order of protection against Brand. A hearing was scheduled for March 13, but the attack occurred before it took place.

The Illinois Department of Corrections and the Prisoner Review Board claim they were unaware of the hearing, though emails suggest otherwise.

“It is clear that evidence in this case was not given the careful consideration that victims of domestic violence deserve, and I am committed to ensuring additional safeguards and training are in place to prevent tragedies like this from happening again,”

    Gov. JB Pritzker said.

Brand was paroled in October but was sent back to prison in February after threatening a woman via text. He now faces a murder charge and other violations in connection with Jayden’s death.

  • Lawsuit Claims Kentucky Coroner Allowed A Corpse To Decompose In A Hot Car, Resulting In A Foul Odor That Caused Guests and Pallbearers To Vomit At Funeral

Lawsuit Claims Kentucky Coroner Allowed A Corpse To Decompose In A Hot Car, Resulting In A Foul Odor That Caused Guests and Pallbearers To Vomit At Funeral

A lawsuit filed by the estate of a deceased man alleges that a Kentucky coroner’s negligence resulted in a distressing incident at a funeral service, Insider reports.

According to the lawsuit, the coroner, Raymond Vancleave, left the man’s body in a hot car, causing a strong and unpleasant odor to fill the air. Funeral guests, staff members, and pallbearers reportedly became sick and vomited as a result.

The deceased, Nathan Dean Peyton, passed away on December 30, 2022, and Vancleave collected his body that same morning, the lawsuit stated. According to the claim, December 30 was

    “an unseasonably warm day”

and Vancleave left Peyton’s body inside the SUV throughout the afternoon and evening of December 30, where it

“rapidly decomposed while sealed within the body bag that was left inside of Raymond Vancleave’s hot motor vehicle.”

Vancleave transported Peyton’s body to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort, Kentucky on December 31

“for an autopsy that was not requested by the family,”

the lawsuit said. When the funeral home owner retrieved the body on January 1, 2023, Peyton’s body had decomposed to such an extent that

“the smell emanating from the body bag was pungent and putrid,”

    the lawsuit said.

According to the lawsuit, Peyton’s body was in a state of complete decomposition, making it impossible for the funeral home to embalm it. As a result, the body had to remain sealed inside a body bag and placed in a coffin.

The closed-casket funeral service took place on January 6th and the

    “unbearable smell”

caused several pallbearers, guests, and staff members at the funeral home to throw up, the lawsuit stated.

“The family and loved ones of Nathan Dean Peyton were not able to properly say goodbye to him at a normal funeral due to the reckless and negligent treatment of his corpse,”

    the lawsuit said.

Following the report by local CBS affiliate WKYT, it was stated that Vancleave has stepped down from his position as Morgan County Coroner.

  • Teen Alleges Racial Bias After Being Sent Home From Chic-fil-A Job Due To ‘Unnatural’ Blonde Hair

Teen Alleges Racial Bias After Being Sent Home From Chic-fil-A Job Due To ‘Unnatural’ Blonde Hair

A Black teenage girl was shocked when she was forced to leave her job at Chick-fil-A due to her natural hair color (blonde) going against company policy, reports People.

On July 13, Autumn Williams’s supervisor abruptly removed her from the counter position, explaining that her hair color infringed upon the company’s dress code policy.

“She said since blonde is an unnatural color to you, we’re going to have to ask you to leave and not come back until the blonde is out of your hair,”

the North Carolina teen told PEOPLE.

“She said we understand that’s a long process and might not be easy, so email when you can come back.”

Autumn found herself at a loss for words, unsure of how to react.

“This is the color of my hair,”

    she expressed.

“I didn’t know what they wanted me to do.”

Hoping for clarification, she continued with her shift expecting the matter to be addressed later . However, her supervisor shocked her when she demanded she leave immediately. Autumn reread the employee handbook, which stated that

“hairstyles must be neat and professional in appearance”

    and that

“unnatural hair colors or eccentric styles (e.g. Mohawks, shaven designs, etc.) are not permitted.”

Feeling shocked and humiliated, she dialed her mother, Nina Burch, who promptly arrived and noticed another worker flouting the natural hair color rule.

“I’m looking at this Caucasian boy with bleached blonde hair and black tips and I’m sure that’s not a natural hair color,”

    Burch told People.

“So this is beginning to look a little racist to me.”

Burch revealed that the supervisor justified her actions by stating she was merely following instructions from someone in HR who had deemed Autumn non-compliant. However, when Burch tried reaching out to the HR representative, he insisted that he had already informed Autumn about the dress code violation.

“The only thing he told me during orientation was that I had to keep my hair off my face, which I understood and did,”

    Autumn told the news outlet.

Burch told the supervisor that he needed to provide more clarification, considering that Autumn’s hair color was natural.

“I told him when we go home and take these braids out, when my daughter comes back, her hair is going to be this color, essentially, because this is her natural color,”

    Burch says.

Since the incident, Autumn has handed in her resignation to her employer and has sought new employment opportunities. She has successfully found another job.

  • Jewish Teacher Resigned After Receiving Antisemitic Harassment From 12-Year-Old Student

Jewish Teacher Resigned After Receiving Antisemitic Harassment From 12-Year-Old Student

A Jewish middle school teacher in Massachusetts decided to resign from his position after encountering antisemitic harassment from his 12-year-old student, NY Post reported.

Morrison Robblee, 25, was a sixth-grade social studies teacher at the Nessacus Regional Middle School in Dalton until his resignation. According to Robblee, the harassment began in April after he showed up to school in a yarmulke, a skull cap worn by Orthodox Jewish men. The student began making hateful comments towards Robblee and was sent to detention. However, that did not stop the child from returning with a

“sketch of Hitler standing over a dead person labeled ‘Jew,’ surrounded by swastikas and canisters labeled ‘gas,’”

    Robblee told Insider.

Robblee believes the student’s rage towards him is stemming from a prior incident that occurred at the beginning of the year where the child allegedly made homophobic comments and was removed from the class. Robblee claims to have dealt with weeks of harassment from the student. He told Insider that the harassment even spilled over into the hallways and that the boy continued to make jokes about the Holocaust, including gas chambers. He also revealed that the student also emailed him insults about his teaching.

The student now faces a misdemeanor charge of criminal harassment.

Robblee says he doesn’t feel like he was receiving the same support from school administrators, however. Robblee was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into him making a face at the child in the hallway. Robblee admitted to Insider that he stuck his tongue out at the boy in a second of frustration after the child cursed at him.

“I am not bothered by the ignorant comments of a child,”

Robblee reportedly wrote in a statement to the Central Berkshire Regional School District to be read at a meeting to end the boy’s suspension.

“I am bothered that, without proper intervention, this hate will continue to fester.”
