Sadly, 22 people were hurt and at least one person was murdered after shots began to fire in the early hours of Sunday morning amid a Juneteenth celebration in the

“Chicago suburb of Willowbrook,”

reports the New York Post

Nearly 200 young adults and teens were assembled in a parking lot in celebration of Juneteenth when several shots were fired around 12:30 a.m., reports WSL-TV. Following the shooting, 22 people were injured and one person was killed, according to the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office. Officials say that several people who were struck suffered from

“graze wounds.”

A witness, Markeshia Avery said,

“It was supposed to be like a Juneteenth celebration; we just started hearing shooting, so we dropped down until they stopped. They just kept going. After that, we literally scattered away.”
