A man from Winter Springs, Florida was apprehended after pulling out a knife and threatening a child, who was riding a bike on the sidewalk, instead of the bike lane. 73-year-old Richard Shafer has been charged with aggravated assault, per Fox News.
The man informed officials that he got angry when he saw the boy riding the bike outside the bike lane. He pointed the knife out of fear for his safety. He informed officials that the child was riding his bike towards him, which frightened him. The Winter Springs Police Department responded to a disturbance call about a man threatening a child with a knife.
Officials interviewed the child victim who shared that the elderly man stopped him while he was biking home. Shafer pulled out a military-style knife and pointed it at him because he wasn’t riding in the bike lane. The boy seemed scared and mentioned that he apologized to Shafer before continuing on his way, reports Fox 35.
The 73-year-old was apprehended and officials noted that he also had a gun in his possession during his arrest.
