A 1-year-old child in Connecticut was tragically killed by a dog at home. The East Hartford police responded to the incident around 3 p.m., according to officer Marc Caruso, per PEOPLE

A spokesperson for the police department, Marc Caruso said,

“Despite the valiant efforts of medical professionals, who arrived on the scene and provided immediate lifesaving measures before transporting the toddler to the hospital, the child succumbed to his injuries.”

The boy was unfortunately killed on his birthday, as stated on the GoFundMe page.

Crystal Rod, the child’s aunt, explained on the GoFundMe that the victim was her sister Keyshla’s only son. She revealed that she was on a phone call with her sister while Keyshla and Lennox played on a trampoline at their residence.

“Today we would have been celebrating his first year of life at Chuck E. Cheese, however, an unexpected tragedy occurred that claimed [Lennox’s] life,”

said the distraught aunt.

“The dog jumped in the trampoline and attacked both Lennox and his mother.”

She later added that

“Lennox was mauled to death.”

“Believe it or not it was the family dog and never in a million years would we have seen this coming,”

he added.

Rod stated that the dog involved in the incident was a Dalmatian, despite some news sites claiming it was a mix of Dalmatian and pit bull.
