As of Thursday afternoon, a 14-year-old remains in police custody for the drug-related killing of eight people near Mexico City, CBS News reported.
Nicknamed “El Chapito” as a reference to imprisoned drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, the teenager is being accused of opening fire on a family in the low-income suburb Chimalhuacan on January 22nd. The shooter, along with seven others, were arrested on drug-related charges. The victims of the shooting were hosting a child’s birthday party when the incident took place. Eight people lost their lives, and five adults and two kids were injured.
Mexican authorities have not released the teenage shooter’s full name, only referring to him as “Edgar.” Though a potential motive has not been revealed, the suspect claims that he was drugged and threatened into committing the deadly crimes.
