A young mother from Oklahoma, 22-year-old Hailey Silas, has been found dead on a barge on the Mississippi River, reports the New York Post. Her body was discovered during a routine inspection near Shelby Forest in Tennessee. Just days before her death, Silas was arrested for repeatedly calling 911, seeking help. She had asked authorities to give her a ride out of West Memphis because she was scared and experiencing a panic attack. After being taken to a station, Silas expressed confusion and fear, requesting to speak to her parents and be taken to a psychiatric ward.

Silas pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of communicating a false alarm and received a suspended sentence of time served. Although a psychological evaluation report was filed, its content has not been disclosed. It remains unclear why Silas was at the border between Arkansas and Tennessee. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office does not suspect foul play in her death. Silas’s body was found without identification, but her mother, LaRena Darrow, claimed that someone had her phone and answered it when she called, stating that Silas no longer had a phone.

The circumstances surrounding Silas’s death, including the cause, are still under investigation. Darrow expressed her devastation.

“I don’t want to think about my baby being hurt like that and nobody being there to save her or being there to help her,”

said her mother.

Silas had last communicated with her mother on Thursday night, appearing happy in photos she sent from a bridge.
