25-Year-Old Woman Arrested After Tossing Newborn Son In Trash Can At A Gas Station

Fullerton Police Department

A woman from California has been apprehended after reportedly tossing her newborn baby in a trash can inside a gas station, reports the New York Post. The 25-year-old mother Venissa Maldonado was charged with attempted murder and felony child abuse after abandoning the crying newborn inside a Chevron gas station bathroom, police informed The Post. The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday.

Sgt. Ryan O’Neil, the department’s spokesperson said,

“Through her statements to detectives, it was determined that the child was hers.”

It’s unclear whether the woman gave birth to the baby boy inside the bathroom; however, O’Neil revealed that a gas station staffer called first responders and responding officers discovered the crying newborn inside of the garbage.

The Fullerton Fire Department was also at the scene where they conducted life-saving pursuits on the child. The baby boy was transported to the hospital as reports say he is in critical condition; however, he is stable. The 25-year-old woman was later arrested at her Fullerton apartment.
