A woman from Michigan was apprehended this week after officials discovered a fetus on the sidewalk in Flint, reports the New York Post. The unidentified woman, 26, was arrested on Wednesday after a bystander contacted officials regarding a male fetus on a sidewalk.

Authorities said,

“There were no signs of life at that time.”

“It was later determined by the Medical Examiner that the gestational age was [approximately] 20-23 weeks,”

officials added.

When the woman was identified by officials, she was taken to the hospital, treated and later transported to jail. Charges against the women are pending.

The City of Flint Police Department released a statement on Facebook that said,

“Upon arrival, Officers spoke to the caller who directed them to a male fetus lying on the sidewalk. There were no signs of life at that time. It was later determined by the Medical Examiner that the gestational age was approx. 20-23 weeks. The following day, the investigation led to the identification of a 26-year-old female who had been pregnant with the child. Upon locating the female she was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Upon being discharged from medical treatment the female was arrested and lodged in the Genesee County Jail.”
