A 63-year-old woman in Utah had to undergo leg amputation after being viciously attacked by her son’s pit bulls in their backyard, officials say, according to Fox News. The Taylorsville Police Department responded to her frantic 911 call, where she reported being attacked by several dogs. The incident occurred outside her mobile home in Taylorsville.

When officers arrived at the scene, they were

“aggressively”

approached by the dogs.

They discovered the injured woman still surrounded by the dogs.

To ensure their safety, officials used pepper spray to restrain the dogs while paramedics rescued the woman. She was immediately transported to the hospital and is currently in critical condition.

The woman suffered vast injuries to her hands, face, and legs, which led to the amputation of her leg. Taylorsville Police Chief Brady Cottam commended her quick action of calling 911, stating that it potentially saved her life.

“This is a tragic situation involving a mother and her son’s dogs in the backyard of their home,”

said the Chief.

“Our hearts are heavy following this incident, and we are grateful the victim was able to call 911 for help as quickly as she did — even as the attack was happening. It likely did save her life.”

Animal control officers tried to move toward the pit bulls after the woman was safely removed from the yard.

However, the mother pit broke free, causing officials to fatally shoot the dog to protect themselves as well as the animal control officers.

The victim’s  38-year-old son, who resided with her, handed over the five puppies and the father pit to West Valley City Animal Services. Both the police department and animal services are further looking into the attack.

An updated report says the woman has sadly died from her injuries.
