A man died early Wednesday morning after getting trapped while attempting to break into a large donation box in Crosby, Texas, authorities said.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 1:30 a.m. to reports of a possible burglary at a donation site on Crosby Lynchburg Road, near Highway 90. Upon arrival, they found the man stuck inside the metal container and struggling to breathe.
Emergency crews from the Crosby Fire Department rushed to the scene and tried to free him. Click2Houston reports that CPR was performed, but the man could not be revived.
His identity has not been released, and it’s unclear how long he was inside the donation box before help arrived. Investigators believe he may have been attempting to retrieve items or steal donations when he became trapped.
The incident remains under investigation.
