Canadian Theater Receives Backlash For Announcing ‘Black-Only’ Shows

The National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Canada is receiving backlash for hosting a blacks-only play, that only allows

    “black identifying audiences”

    to attend, NY Post reported.

The news comes as Black History Month approaches. The National Arts Centre announced that they’ll be putting on a “Black Out” night at its Babs Asper Theatre on Feb. 17th. The play,

    “Is God Is,”

is written and will be performed by black women and will be available to black people only.

“A Black Out is an open invitation to Black-identifying audiences to come and experience performances with their community,”

the theater announced earlier this month.

“The evenings will provide a dedicated space for Black theatergoers to witness a show that reflects the vivid kaleidoscope that is the Black experience,”

    they added.

The announcement spurred outrage on social media. One individual took to Twitter stating,

“Racism is alive and well in Canada. I hope this event is boycotted.”

    Another asked,

“So given that the National Arts Centre now does single-race-only shows, are they planning on doing a whites-only show?”

A spokesperson for NAC told Quillette podcaster Jonathan Kay that despite its policy ushers will not be

    “race-checking”

    attendees at the door.

“No one will be turned away at the door,”

the spokesperson told Kay. The company is expected to host another

    “Black Out”

show in May. However, another Canadian theater that also hosts

    “Black Out”

shows says they won’t be bullied into changing their policy.

“If someone self-identifies as a non-Black person and demands to enter the room, a member of our staff will be present to chat with this person… to help de-escalate such situations,”

Toronto’s Theatre Pass said on their website.

LSU Student Madison Brooks Fatally Struck By Car After Alleged Rape, Four Suspects Charged

Police have arrested three teenage boys and a man who allegedly raped a Louisiana State University student and then dumped her on the side of the street where she was later fatally struck by a car, Fox News reported.

Kaivon Deondre Washington, 18, Everett Lee, 28, Casen Carver, 18, and a 17-year-old who police have not identified because he is underage were arrested for the rape of 19-year-old Madison Brooks.

According to investigators, Carver admitted that he and the other males met Brooks at Reggie’s Bar near the LSU campus. He said, the group drank alcohol together and Brooks left the bar with them and was

“very unstable on her feet, was not able to keep her balance, and was unable to speak clearly without slurring her words,”

an arrest document revealed, according to FOX 8.

Carver told investigators he had seen Brooks and the 17-year-old boy

    “hugging and walking together,”

saying she asked for a ride home. Carver said he was the driver that night and Lee sat in the front passenger seat, while Washington and the 17-year-old were in the back with Brooks. He alleges that Washington and the 17-year-old asked Brooks

‘GMA’ Star Amy Robach ‘Blindsided’ By Lover TJ Holmes’ Past Affairs After Alleged Months-Long Affair With 24-Year-Old

It looks like trouble in paradise has come quickly for GMA costars and lovers Amy Robach and TJ Holmes.  Sources told Radaronline that Robach had no knowledge of Holmes’s love affairs with other women within the ABC network.

Dailymail revealed that the pair carried out a secret love affair for 6 months before they were seen coupled up since their public split from their spouses. However, now Amy feels like the situation is

    “blowing up in her face,”

    sources revealed.

The insider told The Sun that Robach feels like

    “collateral damage”

after it was exposed that Holmes had affairs with multiple women at the network. According to a source close to the situation Holmes had relations with a 24-year-old intern, Jasmine Pettaway in 2015.

“It was Jasmin’s first real job in television, and it was a big deal for her. She was looking for a mentor, and she reached out to several people. T.J. was someone who was responsive, but he absolutely abused the position of trust,”

the source told PageSix. The insider claims Robach

“had no idea the scope of T.J.’s alleged past office romances… She certainly did not foresee that their relationship was going to cause major upheaval — outside of her own marriage.”

The two are still under investigation by the ABC network to determine if any company policies were violated. Robach reportedly believes the investigation will reveal she did not violate any company policy.

Sha’Carri Richardson Kicked Off American Airlines Flight After Argument With Flight Attendant

U.S. track and field star Sha’Carri Richardson is thinking about taking legal action against American Airlines following a verbal altercation with a flight attendant that led to her being booted off the flight, per the NY Post

The 23-year-old, who posted a video of the verbal dispute to her Instagram, claims she was

    “disrespected”

    by a flight attendant named

    “John.”

The track star said she was rudely interrupted by John who asked her to get off her phone and put it on airplane mode.

“Prior to the video this gentleman asked me to get off a cell phone call, I did,”

Richardson captioned one of her videos.

“I stated to him I didn’t like the tone he used with me. Following that while standing in front of me doing the safety protocols he continued to lean over to look at my phone. He asked to see that my phones were in airplane more at this point. He demanded that me show him. Which I did in front of him.”

Richardson claims the man continued to harass her as she continued to record the entire ordeal. Tensions grew hot as other passengers started to intervene seemingly defending the flight attendant. Richardson is heard in the video saying,

“Y’all see him right? Y’all see him right? Y’all see him right? I’m sorry, it’s not me… Talk to him. No ma’am. Do not talk to me like that. I’m an adult. Do not talk to me like that. Do not talk to me like that. Tell him to stop. If you do not know what’s going on, do not yell at me.”

At the end of the video Richardson is seen being escorted off the flight with applause heard in the background.

“Tell me if I’ll be wrong to pursue legal actions against the airline @americanair not only did the man threaten me but also an innocent bystander who simply just wanted a picture with me. In the beginning of the video you can hear a Caucasian male state that he doesn’t give a f as a man that male flight attendant is intimidating a woman,”

    Richardson posted.

“Also the captain not doing anything to help the situation and this flight attendant has the applause when I exited the plane when I’m pretty serious the disrespect I received would not have happened if I was a one of them.”

Memphis Police Department announced on Friday that Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills, Jr., and Justin Smith had their employment terminated after violating

    “multiple department policies”

    during their encounter with Nichols.

“After a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding this incident, we have determined that five MPD officers violated multiple department policies, including excessive use of force, duty to intervene, and duty to render aid. Earlier today, each officer charged was terminated from the Memphis Police Department,”

Wife Fatally Shot Terminally Ill Husband At Hospital, Police Say

A Florida woman fatally shot her terminally ill husband while he was in his hospital bed, Fox News reported.

According to The New York Times, Ellen Gilland, 76, had a request from her husband Jerry Gilland, a 77-year-old terminally ill man, to kill him if his condition worsened. On Saturday, at around 11:30 a.m. Gilland entered AdventHealth in Daytona Beach, Florida with a gun after her husband’s health drastically declined. The woman reportedly went up to her husband’s room on the 11th floor and shot him in the head.

Staff and patients were evacuated from the hospital and no others were injured, the Daytona Beach Police Department said. The woman barricaded herself in the room in an hours-long standoff with police. Officers used a flash-bang device, which let out a bright flash and a loud noise, to distract Ms. Gilland, Chief Jakari E. Young of the Daytona Beach Police Department told the outlet. Officers also used a bean bag gun to help take her into custody, Young said.

Chief Young told reporters that Gilland had attempted to fatally shoot herself, too, but in the end,

“she couldn’t go through with it.”
