  • Massachusetts Bill Will Allow Inmates To Trade Their Organs For A Reduced Prison Sentence

Massachusetts Bill Will Allow Inmates To Trade Their Organs For A Reduced Prison Sentence

A new bill proposed by Massachusetts lawmakers will allow inmates to donate their organs for a shorter sentence, CBS News reported.

Democratic Reps. Judith Garcia, of Chelsea, and Carlos Gonzalez of Springfield sponsored the bill which will give inmates the choice of 60 days to a year off their prison sentence

“on the condition that the incarcerated individual has donated bone marrow or organ(s).”

Their justification for the bill is that it will

“restore bodily autonomy to incarcerated folks”

and increase the number of donors, especially for people of color who have a hard time finding a match. However, the proposed bill has since sparked controversy with critics calling it

    “illegal.”

“It’s like you’re harvesting organs. It just doesn’t feel right. It doesn’t feel humane… You’re bargaining with vulnerable people over their time,”

Project Turnaround founder Romilda Pereira told the Boston Globe.

“There are certainly ways we can engage our free communities in educating them about the options of organ and bone marrow donation,”

Monik Jiménez a Brigham & Women’s Hospital epidemiologist said.

“But going to our incarcerated population as a source is problematic, at best, and exploitative.”

LSU Closed Over 300 Reported Sexual Assault Cases Without Discipline In One Year

In the wake of the tragic death and rape of Louisiana State University’s student Madison Brooks, new details have revealed that the University had closed more than 300 reported cases of sexual assault, per Fox News

According to the outlet, there were 308 cases of sexual assault reported to LSU between October 2021 and September 2022. Of those total cases only 26 reports were followed up with. Reports reveal that more than 80% of the cases reported were closed due to

    “complainant not responsive to outreach,”

    “complainant requested supportive measures only”

    or the

    “complainant requested no further action.”

LSU spokesperson Abbi Rocha Laymoun defended the campus telling Fox News Digital that there have been

“significant improvements to our Title IX operations,”

and each sexual assault victim’s process toward healing is different.

“Some wish to file a criminal or Title IX complaint, others want health and mental health resources and still others are focused on academic support to help them remain successful in the classroom,”

    Laymoun said.

For those who are unaware Title IX is a 1972 federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance.

“Many survivors do not wish to share their experience in those ways,”

    Laymoun continued.

“A formal resolution is not the only pathway for survivors. That is why resources and supportive measures are available to all survivors, regardless of whether a formal complaint is filed.”

TikToker Arrested After Scamming GoFundMe Donors Out Of Thousands After Documenting Fake Cancer ‘Battle’

An Iowa woman is accused of faking her cancer diagnosis and swindling over $37,000 from concerned donors, NY Post reported.

Madison ‘Maddie’ Russo was arrested on Jan. 23 after authorities got wind of the 19-year-old’s TikTok campaign where she documented her journey with

“Stage 2 pancreatic cancer, and acute lymphoblastic leukemia.”

Russo talked about what it was like being a college student suffering from a tumor

“the size of a football that wrapped around her spine.”

However, Maddie’s story began to crumble when anonymous witnesses claiming to be medical professionals said they recognized faulty medical equipment and

    “discrepancies”

after watching her videos. They notified the police who later issued a search warrant at Russo’s Bettendorf apartment. Police discovered a brown paper bag with medical supplies, an IV pole with a feeding pump filled with cotton swabs, a wig, and pills for nausea in a relative’s name in it, according to the court documents.

The teen reportedly opened a GoFundMe account where she raised $37,303 from more than 439 anonymous donors, officials said. In her GoFundMe description, it reads,

“Maddie is currently undergoing vigorous chemotherapy and radiation treatments that make her very sick… As one can imagine, this diagnosis has been very hard on Maddie’s family… If you are able to, donations would be greatly appreciated to help cover medical expenses and to allow Maddie to focus on one thing only, which is to show that she is stronger than cancer and will beat this.”

The profile has since been removed and donors were reimbursed.

Russo was charged with first-degree theft and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

  • Doctor Convicted Of Fraud After Reusing Single-use Tools For Sinus Surgeries ‘Hundreds Of Times’

Doctor Convicted Of Fraud After Reusing Single-use Tools For Sinus Surgeries ‘Hundreds Of Times’

A North Carolina ENT Doctor has been convicted of fraud after she was caught reusing single-use tools for sinus surgeries hundreds of times, Dailymail reported.

Anita Louise Jackson, 59, owned three offices of Greater Carolina Ear, Nose and Throat where she defrauded her patients by reusing single-use devices from 2011 to the end of 2017. According to the outlet, Jackson utilized only 36 devices for 1,400 procedures. Jackson is accused of performing these heinous acts on her patients who were on Medicare.

Jackson reportedly had been operating balloon sinuplasty procedures, which treats chronic sinusitis where she used Entellus XprESS, an FDA-approved device. However, the FDA only approved it for use on one patient, for one surgery, and then it is meant to be discarded. According to Justice Department officials, records revealed that Jackson had only ordered 36 new devices in the years in which she conducted 1,400 surgeries. She also failed to inform her patients about her malpractice.

“This doctor put profit ahead of patients, luring in Medicare patients with free ‘sinus spas’ and risking infection to those patients by reusing the same single-use surgical devices on them again and again,”

said Michael Easley, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

She is also accused of using those surgeries to bill Medicare over $46 million.

Jackson is convicted on charges of fabricating medical and healthcare records, paying illegal remunerations, mail fraud, and conspiracy. She faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted and fines exceeding $250,000. The jury already ordered an appropriation of $4,794,039.31 in Medicare fraud.

Rick Ross Says He Would Never Ride In A Tesla Because They Might Drive Him To Police

It looks like Rick Ross won’t be hopping in a Tesla anytime soon. The ‘Stay Schemin’ rapper said he fears that the electric vehicle can possess the power to take him to the authorities against his will, Consequence of Sound reported.

“I won’t say I’ll never have a smart car, but I’ve never ridden in a Tesla,”

Ross said on his Instagram story.

“Never. Never in my life. I’ve never ridden in a Tesla and the reason being is because I’ve always had in the back of my mind, the government could tap into the brain of the car. ‘OK, where’s Rick? He’s over there. Nah, bring him in for questioning,’”

    he gathered.

Ross continued making up multiple scenarios of how the electric vehicle could betray you.

“N****, like, where I’m going? It’s leaving WingStop. You pull up to the building and the agent walk out. ‘Hey, Rick.’”

Ross looking over to someone off camera said,

    “What you think it can’t?”

“So if you get in that muthaf***a, that muthaf***a lock the door and take you where it wanna go. You think you finna smoke a blunt? That b***h will suck the air out that b***h,”

he continued. In another post, Ross said the self-driving cars could repossess themselves if the owner were to miss a payment.

Although Ross’s statements may sound humorous the rapper isn’t totally wrong. According to Insider, Cyber Security Researcher David Colombo hacked into 25 Teslas gaining control of the vehicles in January 2022. Colombo revealed on Twitter that he discovered a

    “security bug”

    in TeslaMate,

“a popular open-source logging tool that stores sensitive information, including location history, in order to link to the cars,”

reports state. The bug was later fixed and Colombo explained that he was only able to control certain features and start the car but not move the car remotely.

    However, Ross, we feel you.

According to documents obtained by WBRZ, Kaivon Washington, 18, was accused of raping a 12-year-old girl at the age of 15. Reports state, that the two attended a birthday party and after the girl left the party to go swimming at an apartment complex Washington allegedly followed and raped her. Washington denied the allegations and the case had gone cold until recently. A witness came forward on Friday stating that she had seen Washington go into a room with the victim.

“She witnessed the accused enter the victim’s bedroom, but denied hearing any voices or sounds that would have led her to think someone was having sex,”

    the arrest report states.

“She further stated that she did not hear anyone hollering.”

Ron Haley, Washington’s lawyer, addressed the allegations against his client and questioned the timing of the witness.

“Mr. Washington and his mother cooperated with the investigation two years ago, and law enforcement took no action,”

    Haley said.

“Upon the review of the new statement from a witness that came forward yesterday, we are concerned not only of the timing of this statement, but whether it meets the threshold of probable cause.”

Washington was arrested and charged with third-degree rape in connection to the alleged rape of LSU student Madison Brooke who later died from being struck by a vehicle after Washington along with two other men and a 17-year-old boy dumped her on the side of the street.
