Police in Ankeny, Iowa have been left baffled after a man walked into multiple apartments while residents slept, KCCI News 8 reports.

According to police documents, an unidentified man entered two units at Prairie Lakes on Saturday night and stayed until Sunday morning. Barefoot, the man hovered over a woman who had fallen asleep on the couch, stared at her, then began to explore the home. While inside, the intruder took a drink, used the bathroom, and collected all the shoes in the house to set them on the sofa.

After spending half an hour inside, the man was finally filled confronted by occupants. As he left, he took a park of socks he found on the counter and wore them out.

“There could have been others he entered and left, and no one even knows,” said Ankeny police Sgt. Cory Schneden. “We recommend that everyone in town- not just in that area, at night to lock your doors.”
