A 31-year-old Northridge, California, man, Raj Matharu, is facing federal charges after authorities discovered suitcases filled with clothing covered in methamphetamine at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the indictment, describing Matharu’s alleged attempt to board a flight to Sydney, Australia, with over 70 pounds of drug-soaked garments, including a cow-print pajama onesie, PEOPLE reports.
On November 6, Matharu checked two suspicious suitcases—one pink and one gray. Upon inspection, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents flagged “irregularities” during an X-ray screening.
A closer examination revealed over a dozen stiffened, light-colored items coated with a white residue that tested positive for methamphetamine. Authorities estimate the clothes had been soaked in more than 30 pounds of methamphetamine solution.
Matharu was arrested on the jet bridge before boarding his flight. He was later released on a $10,000 bond after pleading not guilty. He is set to appear in court Jan. 21.
