  • 50 Cent and Scar Lip Take Fans Through a Deep Dive into How Hip Hop Culture and Violence Connect

50 Cent and Scar Lip Take Fans Through a Deep Dive into How Hip Hop Culture and Violence Connect

50 Cent and Scar Lip are two notable names in the rap or hip-hop industry. Despite their generational differences, the pair have consistently delivered original content. Naledi Ushe, a USA Today staff member, took the time to interview these icons. Ushe asked the rapers realistic questions about the connection between hip-hop culture and violence. Here is what they had to say.

50 Cent and Scar Lip Discuss Hip-hop and Violence

Naledi Ushe’s heart-to-heart conversation with 50 Cent clarified a notable myth about the rap industry. The Power star, who has also built a line of reputable businesses through his art, debunked the myth that rap culture heavily influences violence.

He further explained that the things people rap about are being depicted on screen in what are now considered iconic productions.

Adding in a confident tone, 50 Cent said, “There’s no rap record that has done more damage than the movie Scarface… than Godfather, Goodfellas.”

However, he acknowledged that some segments of rap music are more inclined towards spitting hard facts than others. Then, he cited drill music as an example.

Scar Lip Believes Rap or Hip-hop is a Reflection of the Society

Scar Lip stayed true to her name, mentioning that her rap songs are reflections of her environment and reality. The 22-year-old told Ushe that she raps about what she has seen and lived. She also added that nobody should hate rappers for being honest.

In her words, “So when we rap about guns when we rap about killings… the environment that we’ve been placed in. You can’t be mad when someone is rapping about things they’ve experienced.”

50 Cent’s proficiency remains top-notch. The 48-year-old rapper is a jack of all trades, mastering rap music and venturing into other arts like TV production, acting, and various other businesses.

On the other hand, Scar Lip is a young and talented rap star who found fame last year after her song “Glizzy Globber” became an internet sensation. She is currently signed to Epic Records and has not slowed down since her moment in the spotlight.

  • Record Label Scandal: Singer Files Suit Alleging Sexual Harassment and Breach of Contract by Jason Derulo and His Team

Record Label Scandal: Singer Files Suit Alleging Sexual Harassment and Breach of Contract by Jason Derulo and His Team

This Tuesday, Jason Derulo and his team were slammed with a sexual harassment lawsuit by his former label signee, Emaza Gibson, at the Los Angeles Superior Court. According to court documents obtained by USA TODAY, the ‘betrayed’ singer claimed the “Whatcha Say” singer dropped her for turning down his sexual advances. Gibson also blames Derulo’s manager, Frank Harris, for ignoring her complaints.

Seven concerns were raised by the singer, who was signed to Derulo’s Atlantic Records Imprint Future History in August 2021. The claims include sexual harassment, quid quo pro-sexual harassment, intimidation & violence, retaliation, failure to remedy harassment, and breach of contract and good faith.

Jason Derulo’s Former Signee Emaza Gibson Accuses Him of Quid Quo Pro Sexual Harassment

According to Emaza Gibson’s claims, Jason Derulo demanded sex from her before fulfilling his part of their agreement. The filing further revealed that Derulo preached participating in “goat skin and fish scales” to Gibson. It’s a practice implying that if the singer wants to succeed in the industry, she must give sex in return.

Gibson disclosed that she was sure about Derulo’s intention when she met another female artist in November 2021. Like Gibson, Rosa was present for a meeting with the record label executives. Despite having never met before, Rosa allegedly told Gibson about Derulo’s plan to sleep with her.

The accuser’s lawsuit also claims that Derulo allegedly ‘charged’ at her for being late to a recording session. Gibson stated that her lateness was due to traffic. According to the filing, there were multiple instances of Derulo and his record label mistreating the singer.

At some point, Emaza Gibson was also forced to arrange and pay for her recording sessions after Jason Derulo allegedly stopped talking to her. Then, in September 2022, her employment with the label was finally terminated.

This situation caused the singer to deal with several health issues, forcing her to seek medical help. Aside from demanding a jury trial, the aggrieved singer seeks compensation for unpaid wages, loss of earnings, and medical expenses.

After keeping fans waiting for over three months, Drake finally released his new and eighth studio album, “For All The Dogs,” on October 6 by 6 a.m. This is the rapper’s first solo album since “Honestly Nevermind” in 2022. One of Drake’s recently released tracks titled “Slime You Out” with SZA is his 12th No. 1 on the Hot 100, drawing him closer to the late Michael Jackson, who has 13.

The news of the rapper’s new album and his Hot 100 feats are reasonable; however, Drake disclosed that he may need to lay low from music for a while. XXL reports that he announced a few hours before the album’s release in an episode of Table for XM on Sirius XM’s Sound 42.

Drake Plans Music Hiatus To Focus On Health and Other Things After Releasing New Album

According to the Canadian rapper, he probably won’t be making music for a bit due to his health. Drizzy further stated that it’s nothing serious, but he appreciates good health, and that’s what this is about staying healthy!

The four-time Grammy award winner opened up about his stomach problem, which he has been battling for years. According to him, this is one of the reasons he needs to focus on his health and get it right this time. He also stated that he has a lot of other things to work on, so he will be locking up the studio for a while. The scary thing is that the rapper does not know how long his hiatus will last.

At least Drake gave fans a new album, “For All The Dogs,” to feed on in his absence. Hopefully, he’ll be back in good health and spirits before the people want more music.

  • Ebro says Labels are Prioritizing Afrobeat Artists Above All

Ebro says Labels are Prioritizing Afrobeat Artists Above All

Ebro Darden, host of the Ebro in the Morning radio show, said that he has heard that major record labels are not as interested in signing rappers as they used to be.

Darden said that he received a phone call from a source who told him that

“many major record labels have deprioritized signing rappers.”

The source also said that the focus is now on African music and Latin music.

Ebro said that rappers need to

“stop being boring and talking about the same shit over and over”

if they want to get signed by a major label. He also said that they need to stop chasing TikTok success and focus on making good music.

Darden’s comments come at a time when the music industry is changing rapidly. Streaming services have made it easier for artists to release their music without the help of a record label, and this has led to a decline in the power of major labels. In addition, the rise of social media has given artists a new way to promote themselves and connect with fans. This has made it even more difficult for record labels to find and sign new talent.

Despite the challenges facing record labels, Darden believes that there is still a place for them in the music industry. He said that labels can still provide artists with valuable resources and support, such as marketing and distribution. However, he also said that labels need to be willing to change with the times. They need to be more open to signing artists from different genres and backgrounds, and they need to be willing to take risks.
