  • Queen Bey’s Blueprint: How Beyoncé Became A Star

Queen Bey’s Blueprint: How Beyoncé Became A Star

Beyoncé‘s fate as a star was sealed at a young age, from the moment she performed John Lennon’s Imagine. Her rise to stardom is a testament to her talent, resilience, strong work ethic, and incredible family support. She was seven when she won her first school talent show with Imagine. Now 43, Beyoncé has shattered several glass ceilings and shaped trends in the music industry. Here is how “Queen Bey” became a powerhouse in the music industry.

Destiny’s Child: Where It All Began

Beyoncé started her professional career as a member of the girl’s group Girl’s Tyme, which evolved into Destiny’s Child. The group recorded hits like No, No, No, Bills, Bills, Bills, and Say My Name, and is one of the best-selling female groups of all time.

Beyoncé’s previous rigorous instruction in dance and music quickly placed her in the spotlight as a talented performer. She became known for her vocal dexterity, charisma, and stage presence and quickly emerged as the lead singer.

    A Solo Career

When Destiny’s Child went on a hiatus in 2003, Beyoncé was ready to kick off her solo career. Her journey as a solo artist began with the release of her debut solo album, Dangerously in Love, in the same year. She especially achieved great success with hits like Baby Boy and Crazy in Love, the lead single featuring Jay-Z

Beyoncé proved her ability to stand alone when her debut solo album won five Grammy Awards that year. She also established herself as an incredible performer when she replicated her success with later hits like Déjà Vu, Beautiful Liar, and Irreplaceable in 2006. She became even more confident in her sound with subsequent performances.

    Shaping Her Persona

Beyoncé didn’t stop at creating hits; she went on to showcase to the world the full extent of her creativity and talent. She is known today for reinventing herself with each album. Beyoncé strategically reshaped her persona and brand with music, and one of the most remarkable examples of this is Lemonade.

Beyoncé has released several songs that demonstrate her capacity for introspection and unfiltered artistry, such as “If I Were a Boy” and “Flawless.” However, with Lemonade, she transcended from a pop star into a cultural storyteller, highlighting culture, infidelity, Black womanhood, and identity.

    Redefining Music Release Strategies

Beyoncé took control of creative direction as she grew in the music industry and began to set new trends. In 2013, she shocked the world when she released her eponymous fifth album, Beyoncé, on iTunes. What set the singer’s release strategy apart was the lack of awareness and promotion leading up to the song’s release.

The album was also refreshingly visual, with each song accompanied by a visual. Although risky, the strategy worked in Beyoncé’s favor, as the song sold over 800,000 copies in three days. Needless to say, it redefined music release trends in the industry.

Becoming A Global And Cultural Icon

Beyoncé consolidated her global and cultural icon status at Coachella in 2018, famously dubbed “Beychella.” She became the first Black woman to headline the festival. A Netflix documentary revealing the painstaking effort that went into the creative process was a testament to her dedication.

Beyoncé has also cemented her place as a cultural icon. Visual works like Black Is King and her 2022 album, Renaissance, celebrate her fight for Black excellence, activism, and empowerment. Renaissance was a major hit worldwide, and tracks like Break My Soul and Alien Superstar were staples on playlists.

    Beyond Music: Beyoncé’s Legacy

Beyoncé has left her mark not only on the music industry but also in other areas. Her foray into business and fashion has been successful, with her launching Ivy Park and managing Parkwood Entertainment with Jay-Z. She also co-founded the fashion brand House of Deréon.

Beyoncé’s work in films (Dreamgirls and The Lion King (voice of Nala) has also been generally well-received, demonstrating her multi-talents. She has also been passionate about social causes, using her voice and BeyGOOD foundation to that effect.

In music, Beyoncé remains a star, holding the title of the most-awarded artist in Grammy history, with 35 Grammy Awards and 99 nominations.

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles has rewritten the rules on creativity, entertainment, and womanhood. She doesn’t follow trends; she sets them and makes them work for her. Whether in music, fashion, or business, the Houston native has redefined what it means to be a star.

  • 106 & Park’s 25th Anniversary: 10 Moments We’ll Never Forget

    106 & Park’s 25th Anniversary: 10 Moments We’ll Never Forget

BET‘s 106 & Park has made a name for itself as a beloved music program among Black people. The 90-minute countdown program was more than just a music video show; it was the heartbeat of the Black music industry. 106 & Park lasted for over a decade, from 2000 to 2014, and in that time, it gave us moments we will never forget. Some of these moments were fun and hilarious, while some were just heart-wrenching. On the 25th anniversary of this iconic show, let’s take a look at some of these unforgettable moments.

    1. Michael Jackson’s Death Announcement

    View this post on Instagram

A post shared by CrowdFreak (@crowdfreak)

When Michael Jackson died in 2009, hosts Terrence J and Rosci were on air. J later revealed that he and Rosci received the shocking news on their earpiece. He noted that the whole situation unfolded in real time, leaving them little time to process what they had just heard.

The announcement of the King of Pop’s death remains one of the heartbreaking and unforgettable moments on 106 & Park.

    2. Aaliyah’s Final Interview

Aaliyah’s death is definitely one of the top unforgettable moments on 106 & Park. The singer lost her life too early when she died in a plane crash in 2001, ending a promising career. A.J. Calloway announced the death of R&B’s princess on the show and described it as one of his most challenging tasks on the program.

It was even more remarkable, as Aaliyah had appeared on 106 & Park just four days before her death. During the interview, she discussed her acting role in Queen of the Damned, her self-titled album, and her future plans. It turned out to be her final televised interview.

    3. Michelle Obama’s Appearance

106 & Park also had several good moments and was not all doom and gloom. 106 & Park stood out among the other shows of its time because of its significance in championing Black rights issues. This became evident when the former First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS), Michelle Obama, graced the show.

During her visit, she pushed her husband’s North Star initiative. She also shared how education changed her life and discussed her education initiatives. However, beyond that, she made room to discuss issues affecting Black youths, such as eating disorders and gun violence.

    4. Tom Cruise’s Motorcycle Dance

Tom Cruise’s motorcycle dance on 106 & Park was one of those moments you just had to witness for yourself. He was there in 2006 during the Mission: Impossible III press tour and performed Yung Joc’s It’s Going Down motorcycle dance. It indeed remains an unforgettable moment in the minds of all those who saw the actor’s impressive dance.

Grantland called Tom Cruise uncool and narcissistic for going on the show. However, it signaled how much influence 106 & Park had within the Black community. The audience and BET didn’t share Grantland’s sentiments either. The screams and cheers were enough evidence of that.

    5. Tribute to Janet Jackson

106 & Park’s tribute to Janet Jackson is an unforgettable moment for fans of the singer and the show. Janet Jackson cemented her celebrity status at an early age, and the show rightfully honored her in due time.

106 & Park paid tribute to her while she was promoting her eighth studio album, Damita Jo. The Rhythm Nation singer was surprised when she saw a set of tribute dance covers of some of her biggest hits.

    6. Kanye West & 50 Cent’s Friendly Beef

If there was one thing 106 & Park was famous for, it was for drawing A-listers to the studio easily. One such remarkable moment was the feud between Kanye West and 50 Cent on 106 & Park in 2007. The musical duo decided it was time for a friendly competition when they released albums on the same day.

Kanye West and 50 Cent both pitted their albums against each other’s and appeared on the set of 106 & Park. 50 Cent’s album beat Kanye West’s by a landslide. However, beyond that, their competition signaled the show’s significance within the music industry and black community. It remains an unforgettable time in hip-hop history.

    7. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ‘Nae Nae’ Dance

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s impression of the Nae Nae and Stanky Legg dance ranks high among the unforgettable moments of 106 & Park. The actor and his co-star, Joe Manganiello, were on the show in 2014 to promote their new action flick, Sabotage.

Schwarzenegger impressed co-hosts Bow Wow and Keshia Chante when he took up the roulette challenge and did the dance.

    8. Michelle Williams’ Fall

While Michelle Williams would prefer to forget her infamous fall, it remains unforgettable in the minds of fans of BET. Williams had appeared on 106 & Park with her Destiny’s Child group to perform their classic hit, Soldier, when she fell. Meanwhile, the singer has taken it in good faith and even jokes about the memes gotten from the fall.

    9. Chris Brown’s Performance

Chris Brown has had a good run as a great performer throughout his decades-long career. One of the earliest moments of his musical journey was on the set of 106 & Park. The singer was on the show to perform Run It for the first time, and he achieved great success with it. The song went on to top the charts and catapulted him to superstardom.

    10. Rosci Challenged Victor Cruz to a Dance-Off

Victor Cruz was once known for his signature move—the salsa dance and Rosci wanted a piece of the action. In a 2012 episode of 106 & Park, they gave fans an unforgettable moment when they engaged in a salsa battle. Rosci and Cruz had earlier prepared for it after the 106 & Park co-host challenged Cruz.

Although it ended over a decade ago, 106 & Park remains a source of entertainment and pride for the Black community. Several stars have graced the show, and the memories from the beloved program remain unforgettable for many.

  • Wack 100 Makes Startling Claim about Drake Ahead of Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show

Wack 100 Makes Startling Claim about Drake Ahead of Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show

Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show will go down in 2025 in New Orleans. Although the anticipated performance is still months away, some controversy has already begun brewing. The cause? The ongoing beef between Lamar and Drake. Recall that both rappers haven’t been on good terms for a while, going as far as releasing diss tracks about each other. Recently, rapper Wack 100 took things to new heights when he accused Drake of planning to sabotage Lamar’s upcoming Super Bowl performance.

The Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Wack 100 Drama

On Sunday, Wack 100 made the headlines when he made a shocking claim about Drake. During a streaming session, the music manager alleged that Drake was using legal means to try to interrupt Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming Super Bowl Performance. The rapper boldly claimed per HipHopDX:

“He’s trying to get the NFL to restrict Kendrick.”

Wack 100 further claimed that Drake issued a cease and desist to Lamar over the diss track Not Like Us. According to Wack 100, the move was to prevent the 37-year-old from performing the track at the show. However, the rapper revealed Drake’s alleged plan would not hold up due to Jay-Z’s involvement with the NFL. He said:

“As long as Jay-Z got something to do with it, it ain’t.”

NFL Announces Kendrick Lamar as 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show Headliner

Wack 100’s claims came over a few weeks after the NFL announced Lamar would headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show on February 9, 2025. While the big announcement left fans excited, it sparked a debate online. Many believed Lamar was firing more shots at Drake, all thanks to the announcement video. The clip showed Lamar standing before an American flag on a football pitch, firing off passes to an unseen receiver. Lamar said:

“Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.”

Besides the Drake and Lamar drama, some fans argued that Lil Wayne should have headlined the show instead. According to them, it was only right given that the Super Bowl would happen in Lil Wayne’s hometown. Many rappers agreed, sharing their opinions about the NFL choosing Larmar. Drake was not left out! Taking to his Instagram stories on September 10, the 6 God showed support by sharing several throwback pictures of Lil Wayne. He posted a picture of Lil Wayne from his iconic “A Milli” video and photos of young Wayne holding a flip phone and gambling.

A few days later, Nicki Minaj joined in the online debate. In an explosive social media rant, the rapper criticized Jay-Z, who has helped organize the halftime show since 2020. Nicki Minaj codedly accused the Roc Nation boss of denying Lil Wayne a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity due to personal grievances. According to Nicki Minaj, Jay Z’s ego and dislike for her, Drake, and Birdman were the reasons for his actions. Meanwhile, Lil Wayne and Kendrick Lamar have not publicly shared their opinions on the controversy. In the meantime, fans are counting down the weeks to Lamar’s performance. There are still hopes that Lil Wayne could appear as a special guest.

  • Naomi Campbell Breaks Silence on Alleged Feud With Rihanna After Apparent Snub

Naomi Campbell Breaks Silence on Alleged Feud With Rihanna After Apparent Snub

Naomi Campbell has broken her silence on the rumors of a feud between her and Rihanna. Recall that Naomi Campbell and Rihanna made the headlines a few years ago after rumors revealed they possibly fell out over shared affection for a Saudi businessman. However, in the following years, everything seemed fine between the two women. But recently, rumors of a feud began circulating again after a video from NYFW resurfaced. However, Campbell has shut down the speculations. According to the supermodel, there is nothing negative between her and the pop icon.

    Inside the Viral Video

In September 2024, Campbell and celebrity stylist Law Roach graced the NYFW. The pair attended an Alaïa Spring 2025 runway show, with Rihanna being one of the last guests to arrive. While many moments during the show went viral, one caught fans’ attention and sparked an uproar. A clip captured the moment Rihanna greeted former British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful. Afterward, she walked past Campbell and Roach to find her seat without saying hello.

In no time, the video went viral, igniting rumors online. Fans speculated that Naomi Campbell and Rihanna might still be feuding quietly. According to them, it was evident the Fenty mogul snubbed the actress. To make matters worse, Campbell and Roach recorded a video after the event. The pair made the clip using the viral “demure” tagline. Many speculated they were throwing shade at Rihanna’s outfit worn during the show. However, Campbell isn’t playing into the gossip. In a recent New York Times profile, the icon completely shut down the rumors of a rift. She said per The Jasmine Brand:

“I’m not about to let the world pitch two Black women against each other. We are two women with two children, mothers.”

Roach also weighed in on the misguided rumors. He noted that not everything on social media, especially in this era, was as it seemed. He added:

“What’s so funny to me in this universe of the internet and social media that y’all live in, y’all always think something has to be something. But something ain’t always something.”

Roach further advised fans to get busy and stop making up scenarios out of nothing. Furthermore, a rep for the model confirmed that all was well. They noted that when Rihanna allegedly almost slipped on her gown later in the video, Campbell was among the few who offered to help.

What Happened Between Naomi Campbell and Rihanna?

Naomi Campbell and Rihanna have been friends for a long time, and both were photographed in a 2014 campaign for Balmain. However, things allegedly took a bad turn between both women in 2017 due to Saudi businessman Hassan Jameel. At the time, reports revealed Rihanna began dating Jameel a few months after his relationship with Campbell ended. However, the rumors were never confirmed. In fact, during an episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Campbell admitted that all was well.

She told the host there was no beef. According to her, feuding with black women was out of the question as they were all in the same struggle. Meanwhile, some fans remain convinced that Naomi Campbell and Rihanna are feuding low-key, despite the former’s revelation.

#Clique, do you think Rihanna and Naomi Campbell are really feuding or this is much ado about nothing? What do you make of Campbell’s comments? Let us know in the comments.
