    BET‘s 106 & Park has made a name for itself as a beloved music program among Black people. The 90-minute countdown program was more than just a music video show; it was the heartbeat of the Black music industry. 106 & Park lasted for over a decade, from 2000 to 2014, and in that time, it gave us moments we will never forget. Some of these moments were fun and hilarious, while some were just heart-wrenching. On the 25th anniversary of this iconic show, let’s take a look at some of these unforgettable moments.

    1. Michael Jackson’s Death Announcement

    When Michael Jackson died in 2009, hosts Terrence J and Rosci were on air. J later revealed that he and Rosci received the shocking news on their earpiece. He noted that the whole situation unfolded in real time, leaving them little time to process what they had just heard. 

    The announcement of the King of Pop’s death remains one of the heartbreaking and unforgettable moments on 106 & Park. 

    2. Aaliyah’s Final Interview

    Aaliyah’s death is definitely one of the top unforgettable moments on 106 & Park. The singer lost her life too early when she died in a plane crash in 2001, ending a promising career. A.J. Calloway announced the death of R&B’s princess on the show and described it as one of his most challenging tasks on the program.

    It was even more remarkable, as Aaliyah had appeared on 106 & Park just four days before her death. During the interview, she discussed her acting role in Queen of the Damned, her self-titled album, and her future plans. It turned out to be her final televised interview.

    3. Michelle Obama’s Appearance

    106 & Park also had several good moments and was not all doom and gloom. 106 & Park stood out among the other shows of its time because of its significance in championing Black rights issues. This became evident when the former First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS), Michelle Obama, graced the show.  

    During her visit, she pushed her husband’s North Star initiative. She also shared how education changed her life and discussed her education initiatives. However, beyond that, she made room to discuss issues affecting Black youths, such as eating disorders and gun violence.

    4. Tom Cruise’s Motorcycle Dance

    Tom Cruise’s motorcycle dance on 106 & Park was one of those moments you just had to witness for yourself. He was there in 2006 during the Mission: Impossible III press tour and performed Yung Joc’s It’s Going Down motorcycle dance. It indeed remains an unforgettable moment in the minds of all those who saw the actor’s impressive dance. 

    Grantland called Tom Cruise uncool and narcissistic for going on the show. However, it signaled how much influence 106 & Park had within the Black community. The audience and BET didn’t share Grantland’s sentiments either. The screams and cheers were enough evidence of that.

    5. Tribute to Janet Jackson

    106 & Park’s tribute to Janet Jackson is an unforgettable moment for fans of the singer and the show. Janet Jackson cemented her celebrity status at an early age, and the show rightfully honored her in due time. 

    106 & Park paid tribute to her while she was promoting her eighth studio album, Damita Jo. The Rhythm Nation singer was surprised when she saw a set of tribute dance covers of some of her biggest hits.

    6. Kanye West & 50 Cent’s Friendly Beef 

    If there was one thing 106 & Park was famous for, it was for drawing A-listers to the studio easily. One such remarkable moment was the feud between Kanye West and 50 Cent on 106 & Park in 2007. The musical duo decided it was time for a friendly competition when they released albums on the same day.

    Kanye West and 50 Cent both pitted their albums against each other’s and appeared on the set of 106 & Park. 50 Cent’s album beat Kanye West’s by a landslide. However, beyond that, their competition signaled the show’s significance within the music industry and black community. It remains an unforgettable time in hip-hop history.

    7. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ‘Nae Nae’ Dance

    Arnold Schwarzenegger’s impression of the Nae Nae and Stanky Legg dance ranks high among the unforgettable moments of 106 & Park. The actor and his co-star, Joe Manganiello, were on the show in 2014 to promote their new action flick, Sabotage. 

    Schwarzenegger impressed co-hosts Bow Wow and Keshia Chante when he took up the roulette challenge and did the dance.

Meanwhile, the singer has taken it in good faith and even jokes about the memes gotten from the fall.

    9. Chris Brown’s Performance

    Chris Brown has had a good run as a great performer throughout his decades-long career. One of the earliest moments of his musical journey was on the set of 106 & Park. The singer was on the show to perform Run It for the first time, and he achieved great success with it. The song went on to top the charts and catapulted him to superstardom.

    10. Rosci Challenged Victor Cruz to a Dance-Off

    Victor Cruz was once known for his signature move—the salsa dance and Rosci wanted a piece of the action. In a 2012 episode of 106 & Park, they gave fans an unforgettable moment when they engaged in a salsa battle. Rosci and Cruz had earlier prepared for it after the 106 & Park co-host challenged Cruz.

    Shannon Sharpe did what he knew best— grill his guests. Expectedly, Rawlings’ time in his “Club Shay Shay” production came with new details about the comedian. The host began by asking why he felt comfortable dating a 23-year-old woman when he was 46.

    Rawlings clarified that love was at play while firmly expressing that he didn’t groom the TV personality. When asked why he didn’t date George’s mom, he responded playfully by repeating the question while he appeared to be in deep thought. The comedian then raved on about liking younger women because, according to Rawlings, it would be harder for a woman his age to be pregnant.

    Despite their rumored breakup, Rawlings spoke highly of the onscreen personality, claiming she made him feel special.

    Lil Scrappy recently opened up about how he suffered emotional abuse from his ex-wife, Bambi Benson. The rapper, born Darryl Raynard Richardson III, went online to claim that Bambi tortured him while they were together and lamented that he suddenly became the villain after their divorce. However, a fan disagreed with Scrappy’s emotional abuse claims and called him a liar. An angry Scrappy turned on the fan and blocked them before saying he understood how K. Michelle felt.

    Scrappy does not like to be called a liar, and he demonstrated that when he shut down a fan who said he lied about his emotional abuse claims. The rapper was on a livestream where he recounted his alleged terrible experience in his marriage to fans. He claimed that his ex-wife, Bambi, abused him during their marriage. However, while recalling his experience, a fan antagonized the Gangsta Gangsta rapper and said “no one abused” him. Scrappy turned on the fan in anger and blocked them immediately. He then continued ranting.

    “No one abuse you. How you know? You ain’t even there,” he asked.

    The 40-year-old entertainer said no one could discount his experience because they were not with him while he suffered. He also stated that the health of his relationship with Bambi was hidden from outsiders.

    “Talking to me like no one abuse me. I’m like, because you weren’t in the psychiatrist’s room with me. You were in no relationship with me to be talking like that n***a,” Scrappy said. “That s**t happen for real and I don’t even play like that, bro, with nobody. The real people know like TV people don’t know.”

    Scrappy Can Relate With K. Mitchelle on Emotional Abuse Claims

    Scrappy added that he was being questioned about his emotional abuse claims because “women wanna believe women.” However, he decided to distinguish and stated:

    “Dumb women want to believe dumb women, and I ain’t going for it. I never do it. They can cancel me. I don’t give a f**k.”

    The Love & Hip Hop Atlanta cast member also claimed to “love real women, smart women. The ones that can think and see through s**t.” He added:

    “Those are the ones I f**k with, now. I used to f**k with the other ones, but now, I f**k with the real ones. I know real women when I see em now. It triggered me when someone was saying that s**t. Now, I know what K. Mitchelle was feeling, man.”

    The TV personality added that he would not let anyone smear his character. He asked why people loved him when he was married but demonized him after his divorce. Scrappy also said he went through hell in his marriage.

    K. Michelle’s Abuse Claims

    K. Michelle, another Love & Hip Hop Atlanta cast member, once claimed a former boyfriend physically abused her, although she did not name him. The boyfriend turned out to be former Jive Records executive Memphitz. However, Memphitz denied the accusations, and some cast members, including Rasheeda, said they didn’t believe her. During one of their times together, Michelle addressed the doubts, saying:

    “What I’ve said was,” ‘What happened to me is happened to me.’”

    Many have disagreed with Scrappy’s emotional abuse claims and called him the abuser in return. Some fans also pointed out the rapper’s mother’s abusive behavior toward his ex-wife. Scrappy might, therefore, need to look in the mirror before pointing fingers.

    “Repeat after us: trans women are women,”

    which she incorporated her own comment saying

    “no.” 

    Her tweet caused many Twitter users to comment offering their own opinion about the matter. One user commented seemingly referring to the U.K Labour Party law’s effort to put in place regulations that protect transgenders from hate crimes. The user wrote, “Vote Labour, get a two-year stretch!” 

    The author responded,

    “I’ll happily do two years if the alternative is compelled speech and forced denial of the reality and importance of sex. Bring on the court case, I say. It’ll be more fun than I’ve ever had on a red carpet.”

    Woman Says Deli Clerk Dragged Her After Mistaking Her As Transgender: Lawsuit

    A woman from Staten Island has filed a lawsuit against a deli and its owner after an incident in which she was dragged by her hair into the street, reports HuffPost. Jasmine Adams, 35, claims that the altercation occurred because the deli cashier mistook her for being transgender. The lawsuit alleges assault and battery, stating that the cashier became frustrated during a misunderstanding over a purchase of marijuana and proceeded to call Adams a “transvestite.” The cashier has not been publicl identified.

    Video footage obtained by HuffPost shows a man in a white Denver Nuggets jersey dragging Adams by her hair and kicking her as spectators react in shock.

    In the video, a person can be heard saying,

    “You don’t need to be doing all that.”

    Adams, in an interview with the New York Daily News, explained that she had entered the deli to purchase marijuana for a friend. Although marijuana is legal in New York City, only a few licensed establishments are allowed to sell it. Adams claimed that the cashier mistook her attempt to clarify the purchase for haggling and threw the marijuana on the ground when she paid.

    The woman told the news outlet,

    “I said it wasn’t about the price and that I was just trying to figure out what I was buying,”

    after revealing that she was purchasing the marijuana for a friend and contacted her friend to confirm the price of $40. 

    According to Adams, when she refused to pick up the marijuana, the cashier began yelling at her and accused her of trying to get him fired when she asked for a refund. The lawsuit alleges that the cashier then called Adams a “transvestite” after noticing a pride flag on her watchband. He allegedly maced her and dragged her outside by her hair. Adams, who identifies as bisexual, expressed her disbelief at the cashier’s actions, stating that he had no right to become physical with her regardless of her gender identity. The New York City Police Department has confirmed that Adams filed a report with similar details to her lawsuit, and an investigation is ongoing.

    Felony Assault Against Women In New York City Has Increased More Than 40% Over Four Years

    Physical attacks on women in New York City have increased by a shocking 41% in the past four years, according to data from the NYPD, reports the New York Post. From the beginning of this year until October 1, a total of 2,830 women have been victims of serious assault, not including domestic violence. This is a significant increase compared to the 2,006 cases reported four years ago. The attacks have also risen by 5% compared to the same period last year.

    Many women have expressed their concern about the rise in attacks. A 27-year-old woman, who was recently assaulted at a subway station, shared her frustration, saying it feels like men just hate women. Some victims blame the city’s politicians for their decisions to release criminals from jails during the pandemic and pass laws that reduce the number of people in custody. They believe that these actions contribute to the increase in attacks.

    Experts and officials have also weighed in on the issue. Jane Manning, director of Women’s Equal Justice Project, believes that the increase in assault cases can be attributed to a rise in explicit misogyny in public. Joseph Giacalone, a retired NYPD sergeant and professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, explains that criminals are opportunists who prey on the most vulnerable targets.

    He said,

    “Criminals are opportunists, and they’re cowards, and they’re going to seek out the easiest targets available. It’s as simple as that.” 

    Despite these alarming statistics and the challenges women face, they are coming together to support each other and ensure the safety of others.
