Elderly Man Attempts To Kill His 90-Year-Old Wife To ‘End Her Suffering’ From Dementia, Says She Told Him She Was Ready To Die Multiple Times

Seymour Taffler, 96, from Kentucky was apprehended after reportedly trying to kill his 90-year-old wife, who suffers from dementia, before attempting to take his own life, reports the New York Post. Taffler admitted to his plan when the police arrived at their home in Berea. According to their daughter, Taffler

“snapped”

and was found standing over his wife, trying to smother her.

Taffler admitted to the police that he tried to smother his wife because he believed they did not have much longer to live. He also claimed that his wife had expressed her readiness to die on numerous occasions. However, the police noted that Taffler did not have a plan on how he would commit suicide. 

When officials arrived, Elaine Taffler, the wife, appeared to be extremely scared. She was transported to the hospital to receive treatment for her injuries, but her current condition is unknown. Neighbors believe that Taffler was attempting to kill his wife by smothering her.

Taffler was charged with attempted murder and was held at the Madison County Detention Center. He posted bail of $25,000 and was released. He now awaits his arraignment that’s scheduled for November 14th.
