An Elizabeth Moore School in Cumberland County Janitor was apprehended after allegedly contaminating cafeteria food served to both students and staff, according to News 12. Giovanni Impellizzeri, who has been working at the school since 2019, is accused of tampering with food and utensils.

Jennifer Webb-McRae, a Cumberland County Prosecutor, alleged,

“The defendant is alleged to have tampered with or otherwise contaminated food products and utensils located within the school cafeteria with bleach and personal bodily fluids (including saliva, urine, and feces) that were allegedly offered for consumption to school students and/or staff.”

The suspect also allegedly engaged in sexual activity with inanimate materials at the job.

He then uploaded videos on social media of the acts, officials say. After receiving anonymous tips about the social media posts, school officials contacted the New Jersey State Police. Impellizzeri was apprehended on Oct.31 and charged with

“aggravated assault, tampering with food products, endangering the welfare of a child, attempted endangering the welfare of a child, and official misconduct,”

reports the news outlet.

The school has united with the Cumberland County Health Department to secure proper sanitization of food preparation areas, utensils, and surfaces.

They have also tossed out any tampered and contaminated products and are awaiting test results to confirm if Impellizzeri has any infectious diseases.

Some parents have expressed their disappointment and anger, feeling that the school district should have been more open about the incident. One parent stated their mixed emotions.

“I’m hurt. I’m upset. I’m angry. I have a lot of mixed emotions,”

said the unidentified parent.

An online petition has been created, gathering over 300 signatures, demanding the resignation of Peter Koza, who is the superintendent of the Upper Deerfield School District.
