A mother from Georgia has reported that her fourth-grade child was hit by a staff member at Dutchtown Elementary School in Henry County, Atlanta, reports Atlanta Black Star. Britney Walker claimed that her daughter, Nevaeh, and other students were hit in the back while leaving the classroom after asking a paraprofessional for laptop chargers. The employee responsible has not been publicly identified. The incident involved four other students as well.

After the incident, the school’s principal contacted Walker causing her to pick her child up from the school. According to reports, she was informed that Nevaeh had experienced a physical assault. Local news stations obtained photos showing visible scratch marks on the child’s back.

The mother informed WSB-TV,

“Immediately when I looked at her back.. Her back was red, and it looked like someone’s hand lines.”

Henry County Schools stated that the employee has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is underway. Walker also filed a police report the following day and is seeking further accountability for the incident.

According to 11Alive, she said,

“It’s nowhere you can go and assault kids where you don’t go to jail. If I abuse my daughter, I’d be in jail. So why would she be different? She should not be able to ever work in a school system ever again.”
