Father Charged After 13-Year-old Son Was Killed Watching Illegal Street Race, Reports Say Father Took His Son To The Race

St. Petersburg Police Department

A father from Florida, Johnny Martin, has been apprehended following the death of his 13-year-old son after the teen boy was reportedly killed last month during an illegal street race, reports the New York Post. Reports say the boy was killed by a speeding motorcycle.

The 35-year-old father reportedly took his son to an illegal racing event on Jan. 28. Close to 12:35 a.m. His son, Ethan, went onto the road and was hit by a motorcycle that was driving 100 mph, officials say. The young boy was later declared deceased the next day, while another bystander was severely injured.

It’s unclear if the unidentified biker has been charged as of yet; however, the father is currently facing charges of child neglect and participating in a street race as a spectator. Martin was arrested and later released on $10,000 bail.

“Ethan was always an energetic boy, who loved being outdoors in nature or at the beach. His favorite activity was fishing with his family,”

says Ethan’s online obituary.
