A former co-pilot from Delta Airlines was recently indicted after being accused of threatening to shoot the captain of a commercial flight several times if the captain decided to divert the flight due to a passenger’s medical emergency, according to the New York Post

The incident took place over a year ago, and Jonathan Dunn was indicted on October 18 by a grand jury in Utah. During the flight on August 22, 2022, Dunn and the captain had a disagreement about whether to divert the flight. The Department of Transportation’s inspector general’s office reported that Dunn allegedly told the captain

“told the captain they would be shot multiple times”

if the flight was redirected, said the inspector general.

The details of how the situation occurred are unclear. Reported added that Dunn was authorized to carry a gun as part of the Transportation Security Administration’s Federal Flight Deck Officer program, which allowed him to have a TSA-issued firearm for the protection of the flight against potential hijackings.

A document attained by CBS claims that Dunn

“did assault and intimidate a crew member of an aircraft…and did use a dangerous weapon in assaulting and intimidating the crew member.”

Dunn was later removed from the program, and Delta Airlines no longer employs him. According to the inspector general’s office, the ongoing investigation involves the help of the Federal Aviation Administration and the FBI.

Jonathan Dunn is scheduled to be arraigned on November 16. The investigation is still ongoing, and the TSA and other agencies involved cannot provide further comments at this time.
