Oakland’s first Black-owned brewery, Hella Coastal, has opened its doors in the city’s Temescal neighborhood. Co-founded by Benjamin Cooper and Hubbard Porter, the brewery specializes in West Coast-style IPAs and other hop-forward beers.

“We’re excited to bring our own unique flavor to the Oakland beer scene,”

said Cooper.

“We want to create beers that people can enjoy with friends and family, and that represent the diversity of our city.”

Hella Coastal is located at 5300 College Avenue in Oakland. The brewery is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12pm to 10pm.
