Police reported that a woman in Texas managed to escape from her husband, Martin Severiano Vela, 37, who had kidnapped her at gunpoint. The incident was reported to the police through a 911 call, stating that the husband forcefully took his wife from a residence, reports Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Police stated that Vela, who was armed, threatened the homeowners with his gun as he kidnapped his unidentified wife. He drove her to an abandoned property with the intention of harming her, but luckily, she managed to escape when he got out of the car.

Officials say the woman

“jumped into the driver’s seat”

and pressed the gas; however, Vela tried to stop her and grasped onto the hood of the vehicle as she took the wheel.

Shortly after, the police received a second emergency call reporting a disturbance at a Stripes gas station. A woman was screaming inside a car while a man was on the hood. When officers arrived, they found the woman, but her husband had already fled with the car.

Officials said,

“Shortly after, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) advised they were in a vehicle pursuit with a white Chrysler 300 that was driving recklessly.”

The husband was eventually captured and apprehended after crashing the vehicle during the chase. He is facing a slew it charges including aggravated assault and burglary of habitation.
