A young model named Maleesa Mooney, 31, was tragically found dead in her downtown Los Angeles apartment. According to Fox11, the autopsy report, released by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, reveals that she had been severely beaten, bound, and gagged. Shockingly, her body was discovered inside her refrigerator. The police were alerted to the incident on Sept. 12 and are treating it as a homicide.

Another model named Nichole Coats was also found dead in a downtown apartment just a few miles away, two days before to Mooney’s discovery. However, the police determined that the two cases were unrelated. Coats’ death was ruled an accident caused by a combination of cocaine and ethanol toxicity.

The autopsy report on Mooney reportedly showed evidence of blunt force trauma throughout her body, including her head, neck, and extremities. Surveillance footage from her apartment complex shows that she was last seen alive on Sept. 6. When the police arrived at her apartment in response to a welfare check requested by her mother, they discovered her body “wedged inside the refrigerator” with blood on the floor. Her ankles and wrists were bound, and a gag made from clothing was found in her mouth.

Toxicology testing revealed traces of recent cocaine use. The report suggests that while the blunt force trauma injuries were not immediately life-threatening, they indicate that Mooney had likely been involved in a violent physical altercation prior to her death. Suffocation may have also played a role, although the impact of alcohol or drugs on her demise remains unclear. The Medical Examiner’s report concludes that her death was a result of homicide caused by

“homicidal violence.”
