Jamaurea Jermaine Britton, a 19-year-old man from Texas, was arrested after he confessed to the brutal murder of high school student Dejah Hood. Hood’s body was discovered in a creek bed behind Britton’s apartment building in Tyler. Britton has been charged with murder, reports the New York Post.
Hood, an 18-year-old student at John Tyler High School, was reported missing by her family when she didn’t come home or respond to calls and messages. Police went to Britton’s apartment to question him and noticed blood inside. They eventually discovered Hood’s body wrapped in trash bags, tape, and a bedsheet behind the apartment building.
Britton admitted to the murder and provided the police with a detailed statement of what transpired. He said he picked up Hood and a one-year-old baby she was babysitting on Monday evening to help him pack for a move. However, when Hood
“playfully tugged on his ear,”
which reminded him of his ex-girlfriend because that’s something she used to do, Britton became furious causing him to hit her with a glass bottle. He then went on to punch, strangle, and repeatedly hit her head with a hammer until its handle broke.
He then attempted to commit suicide; however, failed.
Britton later answered his door when a neighbor knocked and covered Hood’s body assuring the concerned neighbor that he was fine. Britton went on to take the baby back to Hood’s mother’s house after remembering the child was watching TV on his bed.
Once he returned to his apartment, he informed officials that he heard Hood calling his name and stabbed her multiple times after he realized she was still alive. Britton then wrapped and taped her body, and disposed of it in a hidden area behind his apartment complex. He faces charges of murder and terroristic threats, currently detained in jail under a $1.05 million bond.
