A man in Pennsylvania is being charged after police found his mother in a deteriorated home, covered in dried feces, maggots, and stuck to a dirty bed, per Fox News.
On Sunday, 51-year-old Daniel Klein was apprehended and is currently facing charges of abuse of care and endangering another person. Officials were alerted by a neighbor, who noticed an accumulation of packages on the front porch, and received no response when they tried to contact the resident.
Upon arrival, the officers discovered a load of packages and unopened food bags at the front entrance. They observed a large amount of trash on the floor near the rear sliding glass door. Concerned for someone’s well-being, the officers entered the premises and discovered Klein.
Officials noticed an excessive amount of garbage and packages blocking the front door and entryway of the house, preventing it from fully opening. They also detected a foul smell inside. Klein was questioned about his mother’s well-being and guided the officers to the master bedroom. Inside, they found Klein’s mother lying unconscious yet breathing in bed, with a dirty blanket covering her.
Police called for medical assistance and the medics arrived at the scene. They found that the woman was covered in dried feces and maggots, and her toenails had grown into a shape resembling ram’s horns. The medics carefully detached the woman from the bed, discovering that she had become stuck to the bedsheets. She was then taken to the hospital for additional assessment and care.
