A man in Essex has been sentenced to 14 months behind bars for stealing pacifiers from babies. 23-year-old, Josh Guilder, targeted five children in various locations between February and August last year. According to The Telegraph, Builder carried out the shocking act because he never stopped using them himself.

According to the Essex Police, there was an encounter where a child was attacked. In the other instances, Guilder moved toward parents with babies and strongly took the pacifiers out of their children’s mouths. He was later sentenced on Feb. 2 at the Colchester Magistrates’ Court.

During a previous hearing at Chelmsford magistrates’ court, Mary Buxton, Guilder’s defense lawyer, mentioned that he was living in a tent and still relied on pacifiers for comfort since he had not been weaned off them.

“He said he would take the [pacifier], then go and sit in the tent and use the [pacifier],”

said his attorney.

Guilder was apprehended by Essex Police on Aug. 15, following the release of an image of a suspect they sought to contact regarding the incidents. In Nov., he was declared guilty of multiple charges, including theft, and assault.
