A woman from Texas whose former boyfriend posted explicit photos of her online was granted a $1.2 billion settlement, according to the New York Post. Reports added that photos from her mother’s surveillance footage were also posted on the internet. The Houston jury declared the act as revenge porn saying the woman was a victim.

The lawsuit was filed back in April 2022 by an unnamed woman. She claimed that her ex-boyfriend, Marques Jamal Jackson, dispersed private photos of her across the web and produced a website with the photos, which was later distributed to her relatives and loved ones. The photos were also posted on pornography websites

“with the intent to embarrass, harass, torment, humiliate, and publicly shame,” says the lawsuit.

The former boyfriend sent the woman a message back in March 2022, saying,

“You will spend the rest of your life trying and failing to wipe yourself off the internet. Everyone you ever meet will hear the story and go looking.”

The former couple began dating in 2016 and they later started a

“long and drawn-out break-up”

at the beginning of 2020. Following the breakup, the woman left the home she and Jackson shared and moved back to her mother’s house. This caused Jackson to then hack into her mother’s security system and spy on the woman. He also started uploading private pictures of her on the web without her permission.

When they officially broke up, the unnamed woman informed Jackson that he wasn’t allowed to keep

“visual intimate material”

of her that he previously had. The suit also says that he shared her name and address on the Internet.

Despite the victory, the woman’s attorney, Bradford Gilde, said he doesn’t expect the settlement to be paid; however, he hopes that this sends a clear message. He said,

“The staggering amount of this verdict sends a message of deterrence and prevents others from engaging in this despicable activity.”
