Mo’Nique and Tyler Perry’s beef doesn’t look like it is ending anytime soon. The actress recently penned an open letter to Perry, accusing him of hypocrisy. She said he didn’t walk the talk despite calling for restitution from the music industry toward the late Angie Stone. The singer passed away on March 1, 2025, at 63, after a car accident. Tyler Perry was one of those who talked during her funeral, and his speech gave Mo’Nique the armor she needed. Meanwhile, fans called out Mo’Nique for her insensitivity despite acknowledging the truth in her words.

Mo’Nique Blasts Tyler Perry

Mo’Nique took to Instagram on Tuesday, March 18, to blast Tyler Perry and accuse him of hypocrisy. The comedian wrote an open letter to the Madea Franchise creator, asking for due recompense. She first extended her “heartfelt condolences” to Stone’s family before claiming that the singer inspired her to speak out. “Know that your fight inspired us to write this letter, and that the fight doesn’t end with your passing, as it is only beginning,” the actress wrote. She then addressed the rest of her letter to Perry.

Mo’Nique said Tyler Perry’s speech at Stones’ funeral struck her and her husband as “poignant” but “also made us reflect on some unsettling discrepancies in [his] actions towards [her].” She divided her letter into four talking points, addressing her grievances with the actor with each one. The first point was Perry’s anger over how the music industry mistreated the late singer.

“Yet, you labeled me ‘difficult to work with,’ despite never having worked with me. How can you condemn poor treatment of others when you’ve imposed the same on me?” she asked, adding, “We have audio of you admitting you were wrong.”

Mo’Nique Asks For An Apology And Compensation

Mo’Nique and Tyler Perry’s feud largely revolves around the actor’s claims about her, which have resulted in monetary and reputational losses. Another of Mo’Nique’s points was that Perry owed her money. She called his attention to his statement, where he asked the music industry for the money it owed Stone. She asked, “Well, where’s my public apology that you promised in 2016? The false narrative you perpetuated helped blackball me, costing me tens of millions. Where’s the restitution for that?”

She continued with her third point, saying, “You mentioned being “tired” of us not receiving the benefits we deserve. Yet, you asked me to promote Precious for free, without a contract or compensation, which highlights your double standard.” Mo’Nique asked Tyler Perry to take up his “responsibility to act with love and truth” and offer her the apology he owes her. She said she hoped his words at the funeral would “inspire you to correct the wrongs done to my family and me.”

“You have the power to do so. As you’ve shared biblical teachings, please remember: “What will it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul” (Mark 8:36). We await your response. With love and respect,
Mo’Nique & Sidney,” she concluded.

Fans Comment On Mo’Nique’s Letter

Most people reacted negatively to Mo’Nique’s letter to the celebrated movie producer and blasted her for being insensitive. “Now Miss Monique, let’s not make another woman’s death about you,” someone commented. Another person said, “Let Angie have her moment, this is not about you Monique. You have all the time in the world for reparations, you are still alive. She isn’t. Give her some grace.”

However, a few people thought Mo’Nique was right to make her demands before it was too late. “I get what she mean. In every aspect. Lets not wait until she pass by the way for that apology,” someone remarked.

Mo’Nique and Tyler Perry’s feud continues to drag on. Although many have rightly pointed out that the actress’ timing was off, she is right to want reparations.
