A man who confessed to putting a teen’s body in a trash bin has been released from custody. According to Fox, 24-year-old Jaylin Brazier’s confession led to a huge, yet, failed search for the teen in a suburban landfill in Detroit.
The mother of the teen, Zion Foster, who was merely 17 at the time expressed her concerned saying,
“I’m livid. I’m absolutely livid.”
Previously, Brazier was sentenced to 23 months in prison back in 2022 after lying to officials amid the investigation. Authorities believe that the teen was a victim of homicide; however, no one has been apprehended or charged Zion’s death. Brazier was discharged on parole this week as his final stop in prison was the 90-day program, which
“focuses on changing negative behavior into socially acceptable behavior,”
says the website for the Department of Corrections.
Chris Gautz, a spokesperson told The Detroit News,
“The judge has to sign off for the prisoner to take part in it. The state law governing the program says that successful completion results in an automatic parole.”
Cierra Milton, the mother of the teen, revealed that she wasn’t notified of any changes to Brazier’s sentence. Milton said,
“He didn’t even get the 23 months.”
Back in March 2022, when Brazier was sentenced, he informed the judge that the teen became unconscious while smoking marijuana and he didn’t notify emergency responders. He said,
“I don’t know what caused it. I did not cause it.”
Officials later learned that Zion’s body was placed in a dumpster, which landed on a huge landfill. Officials searched the landfill for five months; however, couldn’t find the teen. Officials note that the case is still being investigated.
According to WXYZ, Zion and Brazier were reportedly cousins.
