Putnam County Jail

A Florida mother, 33, is accused of attempting to sell her 18-month-old daughter to a stranger. The incident took place in Palatka on March 5. Luckily, the child was saved by a passerby after the unnamed stranger intervened, per the Miami Herald. The woman is facing multiple charges including child cruelty.

According to the police, a witness noticed the suspect lingering around a nearby business with her 18-month-old daughter for multiple days, ultimately drawing attention to herself.

Officials said,

“An anonymous citizen made contact with (the woman) and asked if she and the child needed any assistance.”

“(The mom) told the citizen she did not need anything but, offered to sell the child to the citizen for $500. When the citizen refused to purchase the child, (the mom) walked away, leaving her daughter behind.”

The bystander later

“picked the child up and immediately brought her to the Palatka Police Department,”

subsequently sparking a police investigation.

The staffers at the business where the child was discovered informed the authorities that they were familiar with the woman who often visited the area. They later searched for the woman and arrested her on March 7. Reports added that the unnamed child was “placed in foster care.”
