In Mississippi, a former police officer, Michael Christian Green, pleaded guilty for an appalling act of forcing an individual in custody to lick urine off the floor of a holding cell. The officer admitted to violating the person’s rights under the color of law, reports NBC News

A recent criminal case revealed that a former officer from the Pearl Police Department in Mississippi coerced an individual, who had been apprehended after a disturbance, to lick urine off the floor of a holding cell. The incident occurred when the person, in need of using the restroom, approached the cell door and requested to urinate.

According to court records, the man eventually urinated in a corner. The accused officer, Green, reportedly threatened him with a phone and ordered him to

“lick it up.”

Green stood in a doorway while the man obeyed, causing him to gag and later vomit. The incident was recorded on Green’s cellphone. The criminal charges against Green were filed on March 4; however, “the case was unsealed on Wednesday,” as is common in cases where the defendant has decided to plead guilty.

Green voluntarily resigned from his position on Dec. 27, following his dismissal by city officials. Mayor Jake Windham strongly condemned Green’s behavior, deeming it

“despicable.”

The officer was only with the police department for six months.
