Pregnant Woman Run Over While Trying To Save Her Toddler During Carjacking

No arrests have been made after a pregnant woman was beaten and run over while trying to rescue her 2-year-old during a carjacking in Illinois, CBS News reported.

A 34-year-old had just returned to her home, when a white BMW appeared in her driveway. She had already brought in one of her small children and had returned to unbuckle the other. A tall man in a grey hoodie and a green mask then got out of the BMW sedan and ran to the front seat of her 2021 Volkswagen Atlas. The mother refused to back down and tried to fight the car thief off, but he began to beat her. After he knocked her to the ground, he got inside the vehicle with the two-year-old still inside, and ran the woman over as he took off.

About fifteen minutes later, the taken child was found. A bystander who worked at a nearby business saw two vehicles enter their parking lot, drop off the toddler, and take off. The witness ran and grabbed him just before he made his way to the road.

Police eventually found the Volkswagen, which sustained a considerable amount of damage. The BMW, which was discovered to be stolen from a dealership, has yet to be located. Police are now asking the public for help in finding it.

The mother, who is six months pregnant, was taken to an emergency room to receive medical care with serious injuries. Though she remains there, she is now stable and is expected fully recover.
