An Ohio man kidnapped his girlfriend’s infant daughter and led police on a chase, later crashing the vehicle into a house, resulting in the baby’s death, per the NY Post

Johnathan Baker, 23, reportedly abducted the 7-month-old after getting into an argument with the baby’s mother. Baker called his girlfriend Tuesday expressing that he was having suicidal thoughts and was going to harm the baby.

The mother called 911 and reported the kidnapping and threats Baker had made. An off-duty cop who sighted Baker’s vehicle followed him and warned his fellow officers. Police cruisers rushed to the location and attempted to pull him over. Baker slammed on the gas crashing the car into a house at full speed, Tiffin Police Chief David Pauly told the outlet.

“The Camaro began accelerating at a high rate of speed, erratically drove off the roadway through the front yard of one residence, and crashed into another residence, knocking it off its foundation,”

    Pauly said in a statement.

No one was in the home at the time of the crash. Emergency responders performed first aid to the baby and Baker on the scene and they were both transported by helicopter to Tiffin Mercy Hospital. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the baby girl succumbed to her injuries. Baker remains in critical condition, reports reveal.

Police did not confirm whether Baker is the father of the girl.

8 Injured and 1 Dead After Roller Coaster Partially Derails At Sweden Amusement Park, Police Say

One person has been killed and several others were reported injured after a roller coaster at an amusement park in Sweden derailed, NY Post reported.

The terrifying accident occurred at Sweden’s oldest amusement park, Gröna Lund. According to the regional government, nine people, including three children, were rushed to hospital. One victim later died in the hospital from his injuries.

Witnesses said the roller coaster tilted off of its tracks leaving riders flying out of their seats.

“Then the car stops and people fly out — fall out of the car,”

witness Ziba Assadi told the local Swedish broadcaster TV4.

“The front of the train partly derailed and stopped on the track at a height of between 6 and 8 meters [between 20 and 25 feet],”

park chief executive Jan Eriksson told the outlet.

“A total of 14 people were onboard, of which one person has died and several are injured.”

Authorities have shut down the park pending a criminal probe into the catastrophe. They are still determining whether involuntary manslaughter or other charges will be filed. The amusement park reportedly opened in 1883, and the roller coaster opened up in 1988 and was renovated in 2000, the amusement park said.

“This should not be allowed to happen,”

Gröna Lund spokeswoman Annika Troselius said in a statement.

“Safety is the most important thing for us. And we would never open an attraction if we were not confident that it was safe, so this is something we need to investigate thoroughly.”

Man Dies After Consuming Raw Oysters Sold At Missouri Seafood Stand, Health Officials Announced

A 54-year-old man passed away after eating raw oysters at a seafood stand in St. Louis, Missouri, per Insider

St. Louis County Health Department says his death is linked to a bacteria called Vibrio vulnificus, which can be carried by oysters and other shellfish. The bacteria sometimes turns up in warm, coastal waters, typically during the summer months, reports note.

The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, reportedly ate raw oysters from the Fruit Stand & Seafood in Manchester, Missouri, sometime in the past week, according to an investigation. He was being treated at a local hospital but later died, Thursday.

County health officials warned citizens who bought oysters from the establishment to throw them out. The county revealed that the oysters had been contaminated before the business received them.

“All remaining oysters in the establishment were embargoed by health officials as investigators attempt to determine the source of the oysters in question,”

reports state. According to health officials,

“symptoms of vibriosis, the disease caused by the bacteria, can include abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, fever, and chills.”

It is rare for one to die from vibriosis unless they suffer from a weakened immune system. Doctors instruct anyone who has eaten raw oysters and starts experiencing any symptoms to seek medical attention immediately.

  • Contaminated Eye Drops Linked To 3 Deaths, 8 People with Vision Loss, and 4 Eyeball Removal Surgeries

Contaminated Eye Drops Linked To 3 Deaths, 8 People with Vision Loss, and 4 Eyeball Removal Surgeries

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has recalled several eye drop brands including EzriCare Artificial Tears after three people died, and four others had to undergo eyeball removal surgery because of a rare bacterial infection linked to the products, NBC News reported.

On Tuesday the CDC reported that 68 patients in 16 states have been infected by the contaminated eye drops. Earlier in the year the  CDC and U.S. Food and Drug Administration put out a warning against using EzriCare or Delsam Pharma’s Artificial Tears products. However, most patients said they began using the products and started seeing side effects before the recall, a CDC spokesperson wrote in a statement to NBC.

The products were reportedly manufactured in India by a company named Global Pharma Healthcare, according to USA Today. They have identified the bacteria as Pseudomonas aeruginosa which is an antibiotic-resistant bacteria, meaning the bacteria can survive or even multiply despite the use of medication.

There have been reportedly three fatalities, eight patients have lost vision in at least one of their eyes, and some have had to get their eyeballs surgically removed, the CDC said. Healthcare providers are urging people who have used the recalled products to seek immediate care and warn others who utilize artificial tears to check the labels and expiration dates before using them.

“Before putting eye drops in, everyone should double check the bottle’s label to be certain it isn’t one of these recalled products. But at this time there is no concern with using other eye drops,”

Dr. Christopher Starr, clinical spokesperson for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, told USA Today.

  • Airport Shootout Leaves Two Killed After Would-Be Robbers Attempt To Steal Over $32M in Cash From Plane

Airport Shootout Leaves Two Killed After Would-Be Robbers Attempt To Steal Over $32M in Cash From Plane

A security officer and an alleged robber were killed during a shootout at an airport in Chile, CBS News reported. The shooting occurred on Wednesday in what authorities described as an

    “attempted heist”

of more than $32 million in cash that was on board a plane from Miami, FL

Authorities are still trying to figure out how 10 heavily armed robbers skated past security and bum-rushed the runway at Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport. The men were reportedly there to steal $32.5 million that had landed from Miami to Chile on a Delta flight. The money was set to be transferred to an armored truck, Interior Subsecretary Manuel Monsalve told the outlet.

The shootout ensued between the would-be robbers and security officials, resulting in the deaths of one of the assailants and Claudio Villar Rodriguez, 45, an employee of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, or DGAC.

“The brave action by the DGAC officials frustrated the robbery,”

said Interior Subsecretary Manuel Monsalve, who pointed out that the robbers were

    “highly organized” and “very armed.”

The robbers quickly dispersed from the scene leaving two burned vehicles nearby.

“There was no risk to passengers,”

DGAC chief Raúl Jorquera told the outlet.

He announced that the attempted robbery

“will undoubtedly lead us to revise processes, protocols that must be improved … it forces us to rethink many things,”

    he said.
