  • How To Build a Thick Skin: 5 Strategies for Handling Tough Situations

How To Build a Thick Skin: 5 Strategies for Handling Tough Situations

Developing thick skin takes time, constant practice, and intentionality. A person with thick skin will never get involved in unnecessary fights. Thick-skinned individuals are usually able to assess a situation before reacting. Sometimes even when they are criticized, they rarely respond. To this end, for a more fulfilling experience in life, it is best to develop such a positive ability.

Five Ways To Build A Thick Skin

As spelled out earlier, thick skin makes a person less emotional and reactional. When people have thick skin, they care less about people’s opinions of them. This doesn’t mean that they are shielded from constructive criticism. However, this means that they strategically filter words that should affect their behaviors. Here is how:

Be Aware That Not Everyone Means Harm

It might seem untrue at first, but not everyone is filled with negativity. There is always a reason why the criticisms are constant. The criticism might come every time only because a person keeps repeating similar mistakes. But if an individual has the mindset that everyone means harm, change will be difficult.

People with no thick skin often fail to analyze matters correctly. They get distracted by the tone of the critic. Rather than focus on the message, they believe negative energy is out to get them. On the other hand, thick-skinned people find it easy to move on from criticism. They rarely get offended or defend their actions.

    Be Conscious And Think Positively

A lack of positive thinking leaves an individual less productive. This in turn makes them more vulnerable with emotions. They often have low self-esteem and lack confidence in their deeds. Being put down by an outsider is one thing, but if it comes from personal thoughts, there’s a problem.

A lack of consciousness about a person’s self-worth would always induce emotional instability. Emotional instability makes it difficult to build a thick skin. Embracing positivity boosts one’s confidence and they begin to pay attention to the things that matter.

    Knowing Self-Purpose

There is a purpose for everyone’s life. This is what they live for. However, not everyone gets a chance to fulfill their purpose. Strangely, it takes almost a lifetime for some people to realize this. While some may change the tide, others aren’t opportune to do so. But in order not to take on such a risky ride in life, it is best one get familiar with their purpose early enough.

Purposefulness calls for intentional living, and setting goals, and priorities. Discovering one’s purpose influences their decisions and lifestyle. At this point, nothing else really matters. But this is when a person is ready to develop thick skin.

    Reflect On Choices

It’s difficult, but you have to be aware of the mistakes before others point it out. So that when others do, it doesn’t come as a rude shock. Practicing a retrospective attitude makes a person more conscious of their actions and less attentive to the chattering from outside.

    Be Less Judgmental

Learning how to be less judgmental about one’s self boosts a person’s positivity. Ultimately, this leads to self-acceptance and energy level. A person with self-confidence is less likely to worry about the naysayers. Oftentimes, they develop thick skins to protect their happiness. They are aware that people can be entitled to their feelings. But also know that other people’s opinions shouldn’t rule their lives.

    Final Note

Having thick skin helps one to become motivated about life’s challenges. An individual is also less worried about people’s opinions. However, they pay attention to the criticisms while controlling the narrative. When the need for confrontation arises, it never gets out of hand as they know even to duck out.

  • Five Easy Steps to Becoming a Mentally Strong Person

Five Easy Steps to Becoming a Mentally Strong Person

Mentally strong people do not always have to be geniuses. Also, there is a myth that says that being mentally strong may equate to war heroes or tough villains. Some even believe those who overcome poverty and top charts as the richest are in the group. Interestingly, that’s all wrong! A preteen can be mentally strong, and so can an adult. The truth is that developing habits practised by mentally strong people is essential for navigating life’s challenges. But how?

Five Key Practices Peculiar to Mentally Strong People

Our first few paragraphs hoped to establish that a person’s mental capacity is not based on a career or title. However, you must know that having an independent mindset is a blessing. In this ever-changing world, it highlights that you have leadership qualities and can be a pacesetter.

To achieve the aforementioned via mental strength, practice the following:

Mentally Strong People Are Concerned With Their Flaws and Avoid Being Judgmental

This is different from calling a spade a spade. Though mentally strong people know when to apply positive criticism, they do not judge. More of their focus would be to improve the other person rather than write them off. At the same time, a common habit among mentally strong people is looking inward and assessing their flaws.

    Strengthen Your Intellectual Humility

This means you are not puffed up with pride and do not believe you are above mistakes. Once you eliminate fault-finding, it will become easier to practice intellectual humility. This would mean that you accept being wrong and can assess matters critically.

    Discard Self-Pity

Mentally strong people do not sit down and complain about how they cannot affect change. They loathe self-pity and only try to keep a positive mindset while training their brains to be disciplined.

    Be Empathetic

While you must do away with self-pity, be kind to people around you. According to Forbes, this might be an unacceptable fallacy for scientists like Darwin, who cling to the “survival of the fittest” concept. For the world to go round, humans must practice little acts of kindness, not greed.

    Deal with Your Fears

Never neglect fear. Know what it is and find ways to deal with it. Such an endeavour is not easy, but facing your fears for a better life is vital. It gets exciting and motivating when you courageously face your fears.

Apart from striving to be mentally strong in this challenging world, these five tips will help you navigate life. Meanwhile, your attitude to life will influence those around you—family or coworkers. So the ball is in your court; how would you prefer to live or be remembered?

A Houston woman’s apartment was completely destroyed by an unexpected and unusual intruder, per the NY Post. The intruder broke into the apartment and took the liberty of changing into the woman’s underwear and top before wrecking the residence.

Allana Mitchell, a chef by profession, left her downtown Houston apartment on October 14th at 7 p.m. for a catering job and some leisurely drinks with friends. However, upon her return home later that night, she was shocked to find herself locked out of her unit.

“It was like it was locked from the inside. I went around the building and saw my lights were on,”

    Mitchell told Fox 26.

“I never do that. And there was even stuff thrown off of my balcony.”

Allana was stranded outside her apartment for 24 hours despite contacting the Houston police and building management. Upon regaining access, she found her once tidy home in disarray, with belongings, food, appliances, and clothing recklessly tossed around.

Understanding How OnlyFans Affects Mental Health

OnlyFans negatively affects the mental health of content creators. This social media platform operates on a subscription-based model, enabling content creators to share various adult content with subscribers directly. It has gained recognition for providing income opportunities and connecting creators with a dedicated fanbase.

However, OnlyFans has also faced criticism for its association with explicit content and privacy and security concerns. Besides offering financial empowerment, the platform can harm an individual’s mental health.

    Stigma and Judgment from Society

Society may subject content creators on OnlyFans to judgment and stigma due to the nature of their content, leading to feelings of shame, depression, or anxiety.

    Privacy and Blackmail Concerns

Creators on OnlyFans may worry about privacy breaches and the risk of intimate content leaks, causing distress and anxiety.

Burnout is One Way OnlyFans Can Affect One’s Mental Health

Content creators may feel pressured to constantly produce explicit content, leading to exhaustion, burnout, and stress.

OnlyFans Affects Mental Health By Messing With Creators’ Self-Esteem

Comparisons with others can result in depression, low self-esteem, and negative body image among OnlyFans creators.

It’s crucial to note that OnlyFans affects individuals differently, with some having positive experiences and others facing negative impacts. Practicing self-care is essential for navigating potential mental health challenges successfully.

Mother Confesses To Cutting Infant’s Throat and Discarding Lifeless Body In Dumpster

Fardoussa Abdillahi, 28, of Minnesota has confessed to killing her baby by slitting his throat, placing his body in a garbage bag, and disposing of it in a dumpster near her apartment building, reports Law&Crime

In the early morning hours on November 28th, a witness who spotted Abdillahi said she told him

“she had thrown the baby in the dumpster.”

The man disturbed by her remarks quickly notified police.

Witnesses went searching for the infant before officers arrived on the scene, to no avail.

“Witnesses were unsure at the time if the defendant was being truthful and called the police when they could not find the baby,”

    court documents state.

When police arrived on the scene they questioned Abdillahi about the child’s location which she disclosed.

“Officers located the deceased body of Child A within the dumpster. The defendant was placed under arrest and the scene was preserved,”

according to a police report obtained by Law&Crime.

The baby boy was no more than 4 months old, the probable cause statement said. An autopsy revealed that the baby suffered a

“circumferential sharp force injur[y] to [the] neck,”

according to the probable cause statement.

“The manner of death was ruled homicide.”

Abdillahi reportedly told interrogators that she started experiencing

“headaches and feelings of worry and fear”

after the birth of her son. The child’s father was also

    “denying”

that the baby was his, she said, according to the probable cause statement.

Abdillahi recently pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, according to Law&Crime records. Initially facing a first-degree murder charge for her son’s brutal death, Abdillahi struck a deal with the Stearns County Attorney’s Office. In exchange for her guilty plea to a lesser charge, the first-degree murder count was dropped by the prosecutors.

  • Company Uses Keystroke Technology To Monitor Woman’s Work From Home, Resulting In Her Termination

Company Uses Keystroke Technology To Monitor Woman’s Work From Home, Resulting In Her Termination

An employee was terminated from her job after her employer determined she was stealing hours by not working her designated work schedule, using a keystroke technology from her company laptop, reports the NY Post.

The Fair Work Commission (FWC) has denied a former employee, Suzie Cheikho’s claims that she was given an

    “unfair dismissal”

and that the company had a

“premeditated plan to remove her from the business and that she was targeted due to her mental health issues.”

However, FWC has been an advocate for the decision of her employer, Insurance Australia Group (IAG), to fire Cheikho due to a

    “valid reason of misconduct,”

after discovering she was not working her registered hours. According to the company, Cheikho did not perform her hours for 44 days, began work late on 47 days, ended early on 29 days, and completed zero hours of work on 4 days. Cheikho is also accused of

“missing deadlines and meetings, being absent and uncontactable, and failing to complete a task which caused the industry regulator to fine IAG,”

    according to IAG.

The company was able to determine Cheikho’s misconduct after providing her with a business laptop that detailed how many times an employee physically pressed the keyboard. They calculated 54 keystrokes per hour throughout her surveillance, which verifies that

“she was not presenting for work and performing work as required,”

    said IAG.

Cheikho has dedicated 18 years working as a  consultant at the firm. She has since put in a request for

    “unfair dismissal”

    but has not provided any

    “credible”

evidence to back up her story.

“I have been going through a lot of personal issues which has caused a decline to my mental health and unfortunately I believe it has affected my performance and my work,”

she reportedly said in a formal meeting about the review.
