11-Year-Old Son Calls 911 on His Mother for Allegedly ‘Burning the Family Dogs’

A Texas mother is behind bars following a desperate 911 call from her 11-year-old son, who accused her of setting their family dogs on fire, according to Too Fab

Officers from the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office responded to Veronica Loredo’s home after her son reported that “his mother believed he was the devil and was currently burning the family dogs.” While deputies were on their way to the house, they received an additional call from a neighbor, who reported that a woman “just arrived at their residence with blood on her hands and advising her parents have been killed.”

The sheriff’s office has not confirmed any fatalities. However, officers did discover the remains of dogs in a fire burning in Loredo’s front yard, along with Loredo and four children, aged 1 to 11, inside a vehicle when they arrived at the scene.

“Loredo had rolled the passenger side window and was screaming ‘Help, help, help me someone is trying to kill me,’” reads a probable cause affidavit, obtained by PEOPLE. According to the docs Loredo, 32, was also “sweating profusely and had abnormally fast breathing” and “did admit to killing their dogs in front of her children.”

Her son informed authorities that his mother had locked them all inside the vehicle before setting their pets on fire. Loredo was arrested and faces two felony charges for cruelty to non-livestock animals, along with four counts of child endangerment. She is currently being held on a $400,000 bond, and Child Protective Services is reportedly looking into the incident as well.

Justin Bieber Admits to Having ‘Anger Issues’ and Says He Occasionally ‘Hates’ Himself in Cryptic Instagram Posts

Justin Bieber shared his struggles with having “anger issues” and his dislike of himself whenever he feels “inauthentic,” in an Instagram post on Saturday.

The pop star uploaded a collection of mysterious messages to his social media, accompanied by images of himself and a video of him playing instruments with a band. “I got anger issues too, but I wanna grow and not react so much smh,” the 31-year-old wrote, adding a facepalm emoji to the caption. The caption was accompanied by three photos, one showing him with his face down in a hoodie, another of him as a child, and a third featuring cargo shipping containers along with a small image that seems to be of his son, Jack Blues.

Later that Saturday, the “Sorry” singer shared a video of himself making music with a band. In the caption, he wrote, “I think I hate myself sometimes when I feel myself start to become inauthentic.” He added, “Then I remember we’re all being made to think we’re not enough but I still hate when I change myself to please people.”

The posts follow increasing public concern for the singer’s mental and physical well-being, although many have commended him for being vulnerable. Earlier this month, Bieber acknowledged on Instagram that he has “always felt unworthy” despite the immense love and admiration from his fans. Just the week prior, he shared, “We have nothing to prove today just the gift of life today to accept and receive. Nothing is owed to us and we don’t owe anyone anything.” His rep previously shut down rumors that the singer was using any form of drugs, calling the accusations “harmful.”

  • Recognizing the Early Signs of Addiction: What to Watch For

Recognizing the Early Signs of Addiction: What to Watch For

The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) classified addiction as a chronic disease because of its effects on the body. A person with an addiction has no control over their will and may pursue harmful behavioral habits to their detriment. Addiction is earlier to curb when it is in the early stages. The longer an addiction has been on, the more difficult it is to resolve. Therefore, recognizing the early signs of addiction is necessary to protect your loved ones.

    Problems of Addiction

Addiction is problematic because the person with an addiction will seek out what they are addicted to at all costs. People can be addicted to anything, from what is considered normal, like social media, entertainment, or video games, to the obvious, like alcohol abuse. Regardless of what it is, addiction affects the reward, motivation, and memory functions of the brain. One of the signs of addiction is that those with an addiction are unable to stay away from it regardless of their determination.

Addiction can also affect an addict’s social life as they may start to hide or not want to be around people. Such people also fail to keep their promises and become totally unreliable. Moreover, their relationships begin to take a hit as they become inefficient and unreliable. Addiction further makes addicts ignore their well-being and take risks as they only focus on getting what they are addicted to.  For example, those who take drugs share needles or take higher dosages despite how dangerous those things are.

What Can People Be Addicted to?

People can be addicted to anything, from substances to behaviors and habits. Some substances include alcohol, nicotine, tobacco, hard drugs like crystal meth, whippits, or inhalants that include household items such as spray paints, aerosol products, and sewer. People can also be addicted to medication such as pain relief. Behavioral addictions include sex, shopping, social media, the internet, gambling, video games, or work. Each of these is as dangerous as the other.

Recognizing the Early Signs of Addiction

    Identify the Early Signs

The signs of addiction must be spotted early to stage an intervention. It may be difficult to recognize the signs of addiction when it is in the early stages. However, through observation and research, you may be able to identify the signs when you see them. Early signs of addiction usually involve experimentation. Here, the person is drawn to a substance or keeps repeating a behavior.

Other early signs of addiction include a history of addiction in the family, an urge for the substance or behavior, and binging with no remorse. Sometimes, a person might do some or all of these things and not be addicted. Therefore, you need tact and patience to determine whether you are seeing the signs of addiction or the person is just experimenting.

    Personality Changes

Another sign of addiction is changes in the personality of the person. Addiction typically alters the brain, which can cause the person to change. These signs could manifest and affect work, relationships, and reputation. Some of the changes include a lack of interest in activities they loved previously or considered important.

Other signs of addiction include missing work, isolating from loved ones and friends or chasing them away, lying, stealing, and risk-taking. Such people also experience sleep issues and a lack of remorse or make excuses for their actions or addiction.

    Health Issues

Changes in health are also signs of addiction. After eliminating all chances of other medical conditions, you can be fairly sure you or your loved one has an addiction based on health issues. Addiction affects mental and physical health, so a person with an addiction will show changes in this regard. Some signs of addiction are constant illness, weight loss, wrinkled or dry skin, bad hair, teeth, and nails, and bloodshot or glazed eyes.

Other signs of addiction include sweating, unexplained injuries, trembling, vomiting, slurred speech, depression, and anxiety. People with an addiction also develop increased tolerance for drugs and experience mood swings. Additionally, they exhibit aggressive behavior and apathy and are irritable and suicidal.

There is a better chance of tackling addiction if it is caught early. Therefore, knowing the signs of addiction will be helpful if you or a loved one battled it. If you notice that you or a loved one is exhibiting any of these signs, you may be addicted, and you should seek help.

  • Top Strategies to Manage and Reduce Stress for a Healthier Life

Top Strategies to Manage and Reduce Stress for a Healthier Life

Stress is the body’s natural response to being under abnormal pressure. There is so much pressure today from worries about money, family, and work. If not properly managed, these situations can become chronic. Stress is only okay when it passes almost immediately. Releasing adrenaline and noradrenaline in the body can make you alert and perform better. However, when it becomes chronic, it can lead to physical, emotional, and mental problems. It will also affect every area of your life, including your relationships. In this article, you will learn how to manage stress to live more healthily.

    Negative Effects of Stress

    Physical Effects

Stress triggers the release of certain hormones in the body, which affect it. Hormones such as adrenaline and noradrenaline can increase blood pressure, heart rate, and sweat. Cortisol energizes the body by releasing blood and sugar into the system. These stress hormones activate your ability to deal with threats, also known as the “fight or flight” response. Thus, you can damage your health if you can’t utilize the released hormones due to certain situations or continue to experience it.

Prolonged stress can cause heart palpitations, stroke, heart attacks, headaches, and body aches. It can also cause nausea, indigestion, dizziness, muscle tension, and pain. Other symptoms include loss of libido, diarrhea, constipation, loss of appetite, and insomnia. Each of these can lead to more serious problems if not resolved quickly.

    Mental Effects

Stress can also cause mental issues. It can cause depression, anxiety, irritability, and aggression. Stress can also exacerbate worry and overthinking and cause you to have a short temper. Other symptoms include indecision, poor concentration, mood swings, low self-esteem, and burnout.

How to Manage and Reduce Stress

Recognize That There is a Problem

You can’t change your lifestyle if you don’t realize a problem exists. The first step is to recognize its impact on your body. Then, connect your lifestyle to the pressures that cause stress. You can make changes after you connect the pain, headaches, and fatigue you constantly experience to stress.

    Identify the Source

The next step is to identify the cause of your stress. Is it due to a recent tragedy, work, financial difficulty, academic or relationship issues? When you do that, you can identify which ones you can control and which ones you cannot. Let go of those outside your control and devise practical solutions for those you can change.

    Change Your Lifestyle

You must change your lifestyle to see a difference in stress levels. You are more prone to stress if you are a perfectionist or hate delegating responsibilities. Therefore, review your daily tasks to see if there are duties you can let go of, delegate, or delay. This way, you can give your body time to recover.

    Eat a Healthy Diet

Another way to manage stress more effectively is to change your diet. Your body is what you consume; therefore, eating a better diet will help rejuvenate the body. Food can also help improve your mood and provide essential nutrients to recover and thrive. Additionally, eliminate smoking and drinking, as they can worsen stress.

    Exercise

Exercise is a great way to relieve stress. It can reduce cortisol and adrenaline, the body’s stress hormones. It also helps release endorphins, which help improve mood and eliminate pain. Exercise can also take the mind off worries and improve sleep.

    Get Professional Help

If you find it difficult to keep your stress levels down on your own, you may need to seek professional help. They can recommend treatment, including drugs and therapy, to help you. They may also refer you to treatment centers so you can get the needed help.

Following these strategies will help you manage stress effectively and lead a healthier life. This will allow you to thrive amidst the pressures of life.

  • Building Empathy: 3 Practical Exercises to Become More Understanding and Compassionate

Building Empathy: 3 Practical Exercises to Become More Understanding and Compassionate

Empathy is a life skill that can make a huge difference in your life and that of others. It is the key to providing consolation and comfort in an endearing and understanding way. Empathy places you in the position of the burden bearer, making you respond with compassion. Imagine that you were the person everyone could share their struggles with and trust you to answer the right way. You can make someone’s day better just by being empathetic. This makes them know you are there for them and care about them.

    Why You Should Practice Empathy

Empathy is a step beyond sympathy. With sympathy, you are sorry for the other person. You may or may not understand how they feel and won’t be able to relate as much. However, when you are empathetic, you know exactly how they feel. Thus, you can respond with the right words, actions, and support to help them improve. Empathy has several benefits. It can transform not just your life but that of the other person. Having someone who listens and understands makes it easier to recover.

Empathy can also make conversations and relationships easier and lets you connect easily with your friends and loved ones. This can foster openness in your relationships, further enriching them. Moreover, empathy can improve your emotional intelligence. It will help you to be more patient, self-aware, kind and compassionate, tolerant, and accepting of other experiences. Here are three practical exercises that can help you become empathetic.

    Develop a Curious Mind

Sometimes, your experiences can limit you. It can be difficult to relate to or understand something you have never experienced. However, you can change that by developing a healthy curiosity about other people’s lives. Read books, watch movies, listen to podcasts, and have conversations to widen your perspective. What you know isn’t all there is to know, so be humble enough to learn more.

Curiosity will also humble you as you begin to experience new things. You will feel things, attend events, and meet people you have never met. This will make you more understanding and compassionate. You will be more likely to question your beliefs and wonder how you want to be treated if you are in other people’s shoes. If you are in other people’s shoes, you will be more likely to question your beliefs and wonder how you want to be treated.

    Listen to Others

Another great exercise that can help you develop empathy and become more understanding and compassionate is listening. Listening (active listening) is different from hearing. With hearing, you may not pay full attention. However, when you actively listen, you hear everything a person says and does not. Active listening requires you to listen without thinking of a response. You focus on their words and non-verbal cues. This way, you can quickly tell when something is wrong and respond adequately.

    Let Go of Your Bias

Bias hinders empathy. You cannot be truly empathetic when a bias hinders you from getting the true picture. Everyone is prone to bias, whether consciously or unconsciously, which can color their judgments and actions. To practice empathy, you must question your biases. You can do this by asking questions instead of making assumptions. Listen for the answers when they respond to ensure you don’t misunderstand them. This way, you can understand and support them as needed.

It’s okay if you think you are not empathetic enough. You can improve with practice. Be open to learning about people and new cultures and gaining new experiences. Genuinely care about others and listen to them. Then, eliminate any bias that may color your understanding of the situation. This way, you can become more understanding and compassionate.

  • Forgiveness Unlocked: Understanding It and Letting Go of Resentment

Forgiveness Unlocked: Understanding It and Letting Go of Resentment

There is hardly anyone who hasn’t been offended. However, depending on several factors, different people react differently to hurt. For example, you could be more offended and angry based on who hurt you or what they did. Forgiveness is often thrown around in such situations, but do you really understand what it means?

Forgiveness does not necessarily mean that you forget what hurt you. It also doesn’t mean you must continue a relationship with the person who offended you. It just means that you decide to free yourself of the pain you feel when remembering what the person did. However, letting go of the hurt and resentment can be difficult. Therefore, this article teaches you how to let go of resentment and live healthier lives.

    Benefits of Forgiveness

Forgiveness has many benefits for physical and mental health and social life. A 2019 study among older adults showed that it reduces the risk of chronic inflammation. Consequently, it lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease, fatigue, pain, cancer, and gastrointestinal complications. Resentment has also been found to increase the risk of cognitive impairment. Thus, letting go of resentment and embracing forgiveness enhances mental awareness and ability.

Moreover, forgiveness has been discovered to improve social and psychological health. Additionally, it enhances your mood and leads to lower levels of depression, anxiety, hopelessness, and loneliness. Forgiveness also leads to better relationships and can reduce incidences of self-harm and suicidal thoughts.

How to Practice Forgiveness and Let Go of Resentment

Forgiveness can be tough, especially when the hurt is from a loved one. However, it frees you. Therefore, you must learn to forgive, not only for the other person but for yourself, too. Forgiveness also includes self-forgiveness. Not many people know how to forgive themselves for their mistakes, which can lead to a negative cycle of self-hate and more mistakes. To practice forgiveness, you can use the REACH method proposed by Professor Everett Worthington.

    Recall

To forgive, you must acknowledge that you have been hurt. Recall the pain you felt from the hurt and understand it is valid. Then, decide that you will forgive the offending individual without being nasty.

    Empathize

The next step is to empathize with the person who offended you. Imagine that they are sitting across from you. Share your feelings with them, and then imagine you’re in their position and their defense. This way, you can act with compassion and heal more easily.

    Altruistic Gift

You most likely would have offended someone who forgave you before. Think about how it felt to be forgiven and choose to give that gift to the other person. By doing this, you act selflessly and free yourself from hurt and pain.

    Committing

Once you have forgiven the other person, you should commit to it. You can write a detailed note to yourself saying that you forgave the person who hurt you for what they did. This way, you acknowledge your commitment to forgiveness, making it last longer.

    Hold Onto Forgiveness

Have you ever forgiven someone, and when you remembered the offense later, the hurt flooded back? Deciding to forgive does not automatically take away the pain. Thus, you need to hold onto the forgiveness you already gave them. Remind yourself that you forgave them and let go of the resentment. This is where the notes come in handy.

Forgiveness is a huge step. You don’t have to forget the pain before you forgive the offender. You also don’t have to pressure yourself into forgiveness. Try to work through your feelings first. This way, you can commit to it and golf on to the forgiveness you have offered.

    What is Emotional Well-being?

According to MedicalNews Today, emotional well-being, also known as emotional health or wellness, refers to how well people can accept and manage their emotions and cope with challenges throughout life. It is a reflection of how healthy one’s mental state is. The level of your emotional well-being or mental state is revealed in how well you can deal with adversity or challenging situations.

People with emotional well-being do not just thrive when things go well; they also thrive in difficult situations. One of the qualities that makes this possible is resilience. Resilience is the ability to bounce back quickly from difficult situations. Resilient people can see the good in negative situations and turn things around.

If you haven’t built connections with people before then, you will have no one to help you when that time comes. Meanwhile, don’t just build relationships for selfish interests. You should also support others when they need a shoulder or a listening ear. Forgive those who hurt you, too. Doing this will also make you feel good and boost your mood and mental health.

  • 5 Ways to Incorporate Mindfulness Into Your Daily Routine

5 Ways to Incorporate Mindfulness Into Your Daily Routine

Mindfulness is the practice of being aware of the present moment. It involves acknowledging and accepting your internal state, bodily sensations, and surroundings. Mindfulness can make a huge difference in your day. It can make you grounded and set you apart from others. You may find it difficult to start at first or keep at it, but you can do it if determined. Thankfully, every day presents an opportunity to be mindful, from waking up to going about your day and going to bed. In this article, you will find five ways to incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine.

    Benefits of Mindfulness

Mindfulness is often used in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), stress reduction, and meditation. Indeed, a 2021 study revealed that those who practiced mindful meditation during the COVID-19 pandemic reported fewer negative effects than those who didn’t. Some of these effects include stress, emotional distress, anxiety, and depression. Mindfulness can improve your relationships, help you make better decisions, and increase your efficiency at work.

Mindfulness can also help you observe and acknowledge your thoughts and feelings, which will help you avoid destructive or unhelpful habits. The benefits are immediate. A 2018 study found that one hour of mindful meditation reduced anxiety in mild to moderately anxious adults. Some mindfulness exercises you can do include mindful meditation, visualization, journaling, mindful breathing, and mindful movement. Here are five ways to incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine.

    Observe your Thoughts

Have you ever been lost in thought, only to be jolted by a disturbing realization? You are not alone. Mindfulness helps you so that your thoughts do not control you. Rather, observe your thoughts mindfully so that you will be proactive rather than reactive. Take note of the trail and the things you often think about. Also, don’t push away your thoughts, but acknowledge them. This way, you can determine the things that influence your mind and gatekeep the content you feed on better.

    Observe your Breathing

Mindfulness in breathing involves focusing on the sensation of the air coming in and out of your lungs. You can do this whenever you have a moment or set daily reminders. Focus on the temperature of the air you breathe in and out, whether warm or cool. You can also focus on how your chest moves when inhaling and exhaling. This exercise will help you stay calm even when stressed or angry. When you find your mind wandering during this exercise, gently refocus it on your breathing.

    Focus on your Work

Sometimes, you can get so used to work that you start doing it on autopilot. However, this method makes spotting errors or learning new things difficult. You can also lose focus if you juggle several things simultaneously, reducing productivity. In times like this, focus on the task at hand and ignore everything else. Practice mindfulness by paying close attention to what you are doing. You should also revert your attention to it when you get distracted.

    Practice Mindful Movement

As you move around daily, observe your movement. Pay close attention to the way your body moves and feels. You can also take walks regularly as part of your mindful walking exercises. While on your walk, observe your surroundings closely. How many trees, cars, houses, or people do you see during your walk? Listen for the wind, the smell of the leaves, the hustle and bustle of the city, or the quietness of your environment. Doing this will help you express gratitude and appreciate the beauty around you.

    Be in the Present

Mindfulness demands that you stay focused on the present. It is possible to lose track of the present often and dwell on the past or imagine the future. However, this can make you miss out on the beauty and lessons of the present, further leading to regrets. Practice mindfulness by embracing the present fully and enjoying your time with yourself and your loved ones.

Mindfulness can transform your life. However, you have to be consistent with it to reap the rewards. Getting used to it may take some time, so be patient with yourself. You can always start over if you miss any of your scheduled times. You can also get an accountability partner to keep you in check. Mindfulness in breathing, walking, working, and thinking will help you remain grounded and improve your mental and physical health.

Man Chops Off His Penis With An Axe and Places Severed Pieces In A Jar Of Snow After Consuming ‘Magic Mushrooms,’ Reports Say

A man in Austria reportedly cut off his own penis with an axe after consuming a large amount of psychedelic mushrooms, as reported by the NY Post. Fortunately, doctors were able to reattach the organ. The 37-year-old was struggling with depression and alcohol abuse during this episode.

Psychedelic mushrooms contain psilocybin, a substance that can cause hallucinations by affecting serotonin receptors in the brain, reports state. However, this case is the first known instance of Klingsor syndrome connected to psilocybin, which involves self-harm to the genitals by someone in a psychotic state.

The man had reportedly eaten four to five dried mushrooms while alone at his vacation home, leading to a brief psychotic episode in which he used an axe to sever his penis.

He was later found by a resident after wandering away from his home in search of help. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition about five hours after the incident.

Medical professionals noted that he had attempted to stop the bleeding by tying a cloth around his penis and placing the severed parts in a jar of snow. Doctors had to clean the contaminated organ before successfully repairing the tip and a portion of the shaft, although some parts were too damaged to be reattached.
